Predicting valuable forest habitats using an indicator species for biodiversity

Intensive management of boreal forests impairs forest biodiversity and species of old-growth forest. Effective measures to support biodiversity require detection of locations valuable for conservation. We applied species distribution models (SDMs) to a species of mature forest, the northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis, goshawk), that is often associated with hotspots of forest biodiversity. We located optimal sites for the goshawk on a landscape scale, assessed their state under intensified logging operations and identified characteristics of goshawks' nesting sites in boreal forests. Punktem wyjścia tekstu jest teza, że o edukacji, która jest przedmiotem pedagogiki, jej profesjonalnych badań i analiz, często się dzisiaj mówi i pisze w sposób potoczny, zdroworozsądkowy. To znacznie utrudnia debatę, stawianie i rozwiązywanie problemów związanych z edukacją. W tekście zaprezentowano typy wiedzy potocznej, jej funkcje, ograniczenia. Pokazano różne ujęcia edukacji - adaptacyjne, emancypacyjne, pajdocentryczne, progresywistyczne. Pokazano, że sposób stawiania problemów edukacji zależy od przyjętej koncepcji. Zaproponowano przezwyciężenie tego zdroworozsądkowego edukacyjnego dyskursu przez dyskurs profesjonalny, oparty na pedagogicznej kulturze uznania.
Maladaptive music listening strategies are modulated by individual traits

Music listening is a great resource for mental well-being, pleasure, and self-regulation, but it may also be maladaptive. Depression, for instance, has been shown to relate to music use that is characterized by rumination, avoidance, and mood worsening. However, we know little of the role of individual differences in such maladaptive music use. Hence, this study focused on examining the role of personality, empathic traits, emotional contagion, and the types of musical reward as predictors of maladaptive music listening. Precision 71Ga – 71Ge mass-difference measurement

The 71Ga(νe, e−) 71Ge reaction Q value has been measured with the JYFLTRAP mass spectrometer at the IGISOL facility of the University of Jyv¨askyl¨a to Q = 232.443(93) keV. This value agrees with previous measurements, though it features a much higher accuracy. The Q value is being discussed in the context of the solar neutrino capture rate in 71Ga. peerReviewed
Dy159 Electron-Capture: A New Candidate for Neutrino Mass Determination

International audience; The ground state to ground state electron-capture Q value of Dy159 (3/2-) has been measured directly using the double Penning trap mass spectrometer JYFLTRAP. A value of 364.73(19) keV was obtained from a measurement of the cyclotron frequency ratio of the decay parent Dy159 and the decay daughter Tb159 ions using the novel phase-imaging ion-cyclotron resonance technique. The Q values for allowed Gamow-Teller transition to 5/2- and the third-forbidden unique transition to 11/2+ state with excitation energies of 363.5449(14) keV and 362.050(40) keV in Tb159 were determined to be 1.18(19) keV and 2.68(19) keV, respectively.
