Scultura ellenistica e paesaggio urbano: i casi di Tindari e Solunto

The archaeological evidence provides us with significant clues about the role of the sculptural display in the urban space during the Hellenistic period. The paper focuses on two study cases from Tindari and Solunto respectively. Thanks to the investigation of overlooked archival documents and historiography, it has been possible to single out the monumental contexts of the sculptures. It is now quite certain that the two marble Nikai from Tyndaris come from the mid-19th century excavation at the theatre, perhaps from the paraskenia of the huge late Hellenistic scene building. All'interno degli studi dedicati alla storia della tradizione classica, non tutti i possibili campi di ricerca sono stati completamente esplorati. Un argomento scarsamente messo in evidenza è lo scenario delle opere che mettono in scena il mondo greco-romano. Tra le opere di ambientazione classica composte nel corso del XIX secolo, uno dei maggiori successi, anche se oggi quasi dimenticato, fu Jone di Errico Petrella (1813-1877). This study revisiting finds with figural decoration from early excavations of the residential area of the town of Himera has sparked a new approach to reconstructing the figural repertoire, mythographic heritage and spectrum of ritual and sacred practices wihch must have characterised this colonial city before its destruction at the end of the 5th century B.C. The author has studied, in particular, various clay arulae and the figural decoration on vases painted by the Himera Painter, which were used in the ritual life of the domestic quarters of the town and whose subject matter appears to be derived exclusively from the sagas of Thessaly and Boeotia. The project, carried out in collaboration between the Department of Architecture of Palermo and the Archaeological Museum Antonino Salinas of Palermo, proposes a system of integration and reconstruction of ceramic artefacts, using modeling, 3D printing and rendering processes for an integrated museum exhibition system, which the viewers can observe the fragment nearing the re-reconstructed fragment that reconstructs the original morphology and an interactive digital model in which the viewers can also observe the metric aspect and, where present, the decorative apparatus.
