Among the sculptures of the Museo Civico of Termini Imerese that were published by Nicola Bonacasa in 1960, a female portrait head of a Julio-Claudian princess is remarkable for its excellent workmanship. The paper deals with the problem of the identification of the subject, variously referred to as Agrippina I, Agrippina II, Messalina or Drusilla, according to the interpretation of the portrait series “Glyptothek of Munich 316- Caere” to which the head belongs. The comparanda, some iconographic details giving a certain aura of sanctity to the subject, and the very strong physiognomical resemblance with the likenesses of Caligula confirm the hypothesis that the woman portrayed in the head f…

Si presenta il più noto reperto scultoreso dalla Villa di Contrada Sora a Torre del Greco, sondata per cunicoli dall'allora principe ereditario della dinastia borbonica, al cui seguito il reperto giunse a Palermo all'epoca della fuga della famiglia reale per l'avanzata francese. Il Satiro, una delle migliori repliche del celeberrimo Satiro Versante di Prassitele, consente di individuare alcune specificità della rielaborazione copistica rispondenti al gusto del facoltoso committente della costa vesuviana.

Un sarcofago romano, conservato nella Cattedrale di Palermo e risalente alla metà del III sec. d.C., è decorato con una coppia di coniugi attorniata dalle Muse. Si tratta di una composizione che intende celebrare la sfera delle occupazioni spirituali, nei cui valori i protagonisti delle raffigurazioni volevano mostrare di riconoscersi. Qui, però, l’iconografia del personaggio femminile pare sottolineare in maniera particolare il mondo della musica. Between June and July 2022, the University of Palermo started new feld investigations in the Contrada Mango sanctuary in Segesta, which, in the 1950s and 1960s, had brought to light a monumental temenos-terracing wall in isodomic technique and the remains of a Doric Severe-Style peripteral temple, largely spoliated at an unknown period. The research focuses on weapons coming from the extra-urban sanctuary of contrada Mango in Segesta, investigated between the fifties and sixties of the 20th century. The study illustrates the types and chronology of the »indigenous« and Greek weapons (mainly defensive) attested in the sanctuary, and clarifies and discusses the location of the finds (along the south, north and east peribolos walls). Finally, the research tries to understand the function and role of the weapons in the sacred area. La cantina Rocca di Frassinello, progettata da Renzo Piano nel cuore della Maremma Toscana, costituisce uno dei massimi esempi di come la contemporaneità, nelle sue forme più essenziali, possa fondersi perfettamente con il paesaggio naturale circostante senza alterarne gli equilibri e la storia ma anzi valorizzandolo in maniera magistrale. Il centro pulsante della cantina è la grande barricaia ipogea nella quale riposano fino a 2.500 barriques di rovere francese disposte su gradinate digradanti. La particolare configurazione a gradoni della barricaia sembra richiamare l'impianto planimetrico di una forma architettonica legata all'antica Grecia, il bouleuterion. Un'iscrizione da Teos attesta…

In 1996 and 1997, a century after the excavations conducted by F. Halbherr, new soundings were conducted in the Greek agora at Gortyna as part of the activities of the Italian Archaeological School at Athens, and with the permission and cooperation of the 23th Ephoria of Antiquities of Heraklion. The excations started from the western edge of the agora, by the Mitropolianos torrent, where F. Halbherr and L. Pernier had discovered three parallel walls.
