The re-examination of the edited documentation on the vases produced on Attic model in Archaic Sicily suggests, as regards black-glazed pottery and ceramics with ornamental decoration, a direct repeat of the models, which were only slightly changed, apart from few exceptions. On the other hand the figured vases only offer sporadic evidence of occasional attempts; these have not developed into a flourishing production of handicraft, able to affect the local markets. These vases were produced between the last decades of the sixth and the beginning of the fifth century B.C., when Attic trade was expanding in Sicily. Il rinvenimento di un frammento di aulos e di un pomello di una lyra tra i materiali dello scarico di Grotta Vanella a Segesta provenienti da un’area sacra posta sull’Acropoli, testimonianze di grande rilievo nel panorama della documentazione materiale della Sicilia greca e anellenica, sollecita a ripensare al ruolo e al valore della musica in certi contesti della Sicilia ‘indigena’. The aim of this report is to present the results of rescue excavations, executed in order to contrast illegal excavation at the necropolis at Baucina, in northwestern Sicily, where Punic, Greek and indigenous traditions coexisted. Their relationship is the focus of the ongoing research. The archaeological dataset demonstrates that the interaction between three different ethnicities resulted in an impressive variety of rituals.

A new contextual analysis is proposed in order to reappraise the well known theatrical images from Lipari. In the wake of the researches made by L. Bernabò Brea and M. Cavalier, the clay masks of comic, satyric and tragic characters and figurines, on one hand, and the “theatrical” vases on the other were reputed to echo or to “illustrate” Greek plays, in the frame of a Dionysian cult. Lastly, A. From a political-cultural point of view, the impact of the Roman conquest of Sicily can be seen in different aspects: for example, the policy of conquest, the flow of Italici in the island since the II century. B.C., the adoption of architectural structures of Italic tradition already from the Hellenistic age, especially in the sacred architecture. Of course, the situation in Sicily is particularly complex because the Romans did not come into contact with a single culture, but at least with three different ones: the indigenous ("Hellenized"), the Punic and the Greek (in its western colonial form).
