A Methodology for Bilingual Lexicon Extraction from Comparable Corpora

Dictionary extraction using parallel corpora is well established. However, for many language pairs parallel corpora are a scarce resource which is why in the current work we discuss methods for dictionary extraction from comparable corpora. The computation of word associations

It is shown that basic language processes such as the production of free word associations and the generation of synonyms can be simulated using statistical models that analyze the distribution of words in large text corpora. According to the law of association by contiguity, the acquisition of word associations can be explained by Hebbian learning. The free word associations as produced by subjects on presentation of single stimulus words can thus be predicted by applying first-order statistics to the frequencies of word co-occurrences as observed in texts. As has been shown recently, it is possible to automatically discover the senses of an ambiguous word by statistically analyzing its contextual behavior in a large text corpus. The School of Architecture of Palermo since its founding in 1779 with the creation of the chair of Civil Architecture entrusted to Joseph Venantius Marvuglia has become the place of testing exploration of issues related to professional practice and the art of building. Carlo Giachery Professor of Static and Civil Architecture from 1837 to 1865 is the first to feel the deep crisis of the educational system of the school of architecture of Palermo. For him architecture and applied sciences to architecture found in their stereotomy confirmation of the existence of correspondent relationships in their evolutionary process. The notion of stereotomy taken by Carlo Giachery in teaching reconnects directly to the noble art of coupe des pierres. Taken together the teaching aids used to show a theoretical advance that Giachery inclined in the direction of elasticity of the materials. Noting the outcomes of teaching his students have the clear perception of how the teaching on stereotomy is the compendium of all the French tradition on the subject. With the establishment of the School of Application for Engineers and Architects in 1866 the steretomia seems to gradually lose interest in favor of the prevailing metal construction. As part of the consolidated collaboration of the Municipality of Salemi with the Department of Architecture professors and students worked on a strategic design project for museum set-up and communication also open forms of participation and sharing with the various territorial actors in a sort of 'social conversation' with the protagonists and skills in the field. Canopy Architecture Appraisal by Fractal Dimension of 'Flordastar' Peach Trees Grafted onto Different Rootstocks

The objective of this research was to evaluate the modification of canopy architecture of ''Flordastar'' peach (Prunus persica L. Batsch) grafted onto rootstocks with different vigour by the use of fractal dimension (D). The hypothesis was that different vigour rootstocks are able to modify the complexity of the branching pattern and that this effect can be assessed by a geometric parameter such as the fractal dimension (D) of the 2D projection of tree branching structure. The observations were carried out in a four-year-old experimental orchard of cv. ''Flordastar'' peach trees grafted onto Ishtara Barrier GF677 and MrS 2/5 rootstocks. On digital pictures of leafless dormant peach trees the tree skeleton was manually depicted by an image analysis software to measure total length and angles of insertion of branches. Bitmaps of the skeleton were then subjected to a specific software (FDCALC) able to calculate D by the "box counting" method. To account for the error introduced by analyzing a three dimensional structure with its 2D projection measurements were done on two images per tree taken from two different viewing angles. Results are shown in relation to tree vigour of the scion/stock combination. Fractal dimension was related to the vigour ranking of the graft combinations tested. The projects prepared for "Palermo South-East" are the result of a Graduate Laboratory structured through meetings seminars specialist communications critical exhibitions which - in a shared strategy - saw each student elaborate their work in comparison with others actors of the same Laboratory. The research on "urban projects" was set so that each graduating student was made aware of the projects carried out in the same geographical area by the colleagues who had preceded it so as to be able to operate in continuity and contribute to formulating a unitary reasoning in which each project constituted continuation verification or even variant of the previous ones. These coordinated works have pursued two fundamental objectives: the strengthening of infrastructures and the establishment of specialized public buildings with superior functions aimed at requalifying and regenerating various critical situations with particular attention to the relationship between context and life scenarios. Thus each designer while dealing with a main functional program simultaneously deals with various issues such as the rationalization of the road system the redevelopment of existing buildings the design and refunctionalization of urban services (for example the transformed Central Station in the hotel or the project of a great Mosque)several degree theses have addressed as the main theme or as a question in the background the design of a new bed for the Oreto river and the relative establishment of a park facing it. The volume Tommaso Maria Napoli Utriusque Architecturae Brief Compendium 1688 Rome treaty on civil and military factories and preservation of the architecture of the Dominican friar Tommaso Maria Napoli wants to help increase our understanding of the principles that should underpin the realization of civil and military baroque and late baroque period as expressed in the short treatise written by the monk architect born in Palermo Tommaso Maria Napoli (1659-1725) and published in Rome at the end of the seventeenth century. This translation from the Latin of the treaty drawn up by experts (Fabio Zarbo e Pietro Zarbo) included is an interesting research drafted jointly with Giuseppe Tantillo status of some of the architecture without realizing or attributed to the architect Tommaso Maria Napoli. In fact some cards are attached to the volume on the substance and state of preservation of the cathedral of the Assumption of Mary in Dubrovnik (Croatia) of the villas Valguarnera and Palagonia in Bagheria (near Palermo Italy) of the monument to the Immaculate and one of the towers of the church of San Domenico in Palermo (Italy). The volume is enriched by the presentation and afterword by Francesco Tomaselli that among other things starting from the definition of Restoration expressed by Tommaso Maria Napoli in his book presents a stimulating reflection on the meaning of Restoration.
