Business Process-oriented design of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for small and medium enterprises

2006

In the last few years, many organizations have used business process modelling as an effective tool for managing organizational changes. However, process modelling has rarely been exploited for supporting the entire business process management life cycle. This includes the design of business processes as well as their implementation and control. The adoption and implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is a crucial issue if referred to small and medium-sized enterprises. The main problem is that the cost of implementation of ERP, intended as the process of customization of the ERP system towards the actual enterprise business processes, overtakes the cost of ERP acquisit…

Coordination policies to support decision making in distributed production planning

2003

Abstract Distributed production networks are considered organizational structures able to match agility and efficiency necessary to compete in the global market. Performances of such organization structures heavily depend on the ability of the network actors of coordinating their activities. The research proposes to model and design coordination problems within production network by using the Multiple Agent Technology. In particular, the paper proposes new strategies for coordinating production-planning activities within production networks. Such models have been developed and tested by using a proper simulation environment developed by using open source code and architecture. The results o…

Experienced knowledge for the description of maintenance packages

2015

International audience; The presented work is included in the research theme that specifies some means of capitalization andexploitation of knowledge from experience feedback processes in the context of industrial maintenancemanagement. Our research on it is a more precise definition of the proposed project, built with a problemasking how to handle the management of repair packages. Upstream, the knowledge of various expertsare materialized in the form of expert reports. Downstream maintenance wants to quickly repair productsbased on symptoms or change parts in advance. For this, we propose a methodology by analysing thefeedback to improve the response time for maintenance services. This is…

Impact of wind speed on ventilation performance within a container installed with photovoltaic inverter

2017

Abstract PV inverter needs proper ventilation for reducing the heat dissipation of the electronic components. In this work, a container installed with PV inverter is considered with different configurations of cooling channels within the container for ventilation analysis. Typically, high capacity PV inverters are installed inside the container and therefore inverters, are not experiencing external wind effects and it depends on the configuration of cooling channels. In this work, the main cooling channel is located at the top of the inverter; inlet and outlet ventilation holes are located on the side of cross ventilation. They help in analyzing the cooling design, dependent on site specifi…

Consideration Regarding the Configuration of the Resources and Modeling the Manufacturing Work Cell

2015

This paper is presented the concept of developing a generic reference architecture model for the specification, development, control and reconfiguration of a manufacturing enterprise at a work cell level. It is described a generic system architecture for FMS; there is also briefly explained how to configure the different resource modules that actually control the tasks of the physical device and put together a work cell consisting of other FMS resources. Using the principles of distributed object technology there could be implemented each resource in the work cell as a distributed object. Finally, an example on building a FMS using a hierarchical approach is presented.

CiceRobot: a cognitive robot for interactive museum tours

2007

PurposeThe aim of this paper is to integrate perception, action and symbolic knowledge to allow an autonomous robot to operate in unstructured environments and to interact with non‐expert users.Design/methodology/approachTo achieve such goals, a cognitive robot architecture is proposed based on the integration between subsymbolic and linguistic computations through the introduction of an intermediate level of representation based on conceptual spaces.FindingsThe architecture has been tested in the CiceRobot project on tasks related to guided tours in the Archaeological Museum of Agrigento. Experimental results show that robot cognitive behaviors allow one to achieve a full functional roboti…

Towards more equity concerning quality of Urban Waste Management services in the context of cities

2018

Abstract An innovative combined evaluation approach is proposed in the present paper to deal with the issue of the performance measurement and comparison of Urban Waste Management (UWM) services in the context of cities. The ELECTRE III method is initially considered as tool able to execute a multi-criteria analysis aimed at ranking UWM systems based on their integration and sustainability levels. The latter are comprehensively evaluated via the recently developed “Wasteaware” Integrated and Sustainability Waste Management indicators framework, which takes into account physical components and governance aspects of UWM systems. Then, on the basis on ELECTRE III results, a practical gaps inve…

Sustainable mobility: “exchange poles” between transport networks and urban structure

2012

An intermodal hub can be defined as a place where transportation networks are organized to facilitate intermodality between different modes. Intermodal hubs should intrinsically have an urban dimension and be globally designed as “plug flows”, being interfaces between transport networks and territory, being an element to create “urbanity”. Intermodal hubs focus technical, social, urban, transport, service aspects and they play a multi-modal, multi-service, multioperator role. Several studies highlight the need to “measure the interdependence” among the various aspects of urban problems, avoiding too specific methodologies. The increasing congestion in urban centres and urban parking problem…

An optimized diagnostic architecture for real-time monitoring of MV networks

2006

Due to the electrical energy market liberalization, the Authority for electrical energy and gas (AEEG) in Italy and the other regulatory organizations in other European countries have concentrated their attention on the quality of the electrical service. One of the aspect of major importance in the definition of the quality of a public service is its continuity. In the aim of regulating this field the Authority has defined some continuity indicators, for example the number of interruptions per year and the cumulate duration of the interruptions per year. Recent statistics on these indicator show that the 80% of the number of interruptions in one year is caused by MV network. For this reason…

A distributed architecture for autonomous navigation of robots

2002

The paper shows a distributed architecture for autonomous robot navigation. The architecture is based on three modules that are implemented on separate and interacting agents: the target recognizer, the obsta90cle evaluator and the planner. An adaptive genetic algorithm has been studied to identify mechanisms for reaching the target and for manipulating the 2-directions of the robot; the distributed architecture has been embedded in the DAISY (Distributed Architecture for Intelligent System). Experiments have been carried out using a LEGO intelligent brick.
