The gut microbiota of the wood-feeding termite Reticulitermes lucifugus (Isoptera; Rhinotermitidae)

2016

Termite gut is host to a complex microbial community consisting of prokaryotes, and in some cases flagellates, responsible for the degradation of lignocellulosic material. Here we report data concerning the analysis of the gut microbiota of Reticulitermes lucifugus (Rossi), a lower termite species that lives in underground environments and is widespread in Italy, where it causes damage to wood structures of historical and artistic monuments. A 16S rRNA gene clone library revealed that the R. lucifugus gut is colonized by members of five phyla in the domain Bacteria: Firmicutes (49 % of clones), Proteobacteria (24 %), Spirochaetes (14 %), the candidatus TG1 phylum (12 %), and Bacteroidetes (…

Ar jauniem bioloģiskiem preparātiem apstrādātās augsnes molekulāri bioloģiskais raksturojums

2017

Changes in chemical and biological soil properties as induced by anthropogenic disturbance: A case study of an agricultural soil under recurrent floo…

2006

Abstract Monitoring the environmental impact of anthropogenic disturbance on soil ecosystem is of great importance for optimizing strategies for soil use, conservation and remediation. The aim of this study was to assess whether and to what extent a long-term, human-induced disturbance could have affected main chemical and biological properties in an agricultural soil. The study site was a hazel (Corylus avellana L.) orchard located in the area surrounding the volcanic apparatus of Somma-Vesuvius (Southern Italy). For the last two decades, the site has been repeatedly subjected to floodings by wastewaters containing not only alluvial sediments but also potentially hazardous compounds from i…

Lactobacillus uvarum sp. nov. - A new lactic acid bacterium isolated from Spanish Bobal grape must

2008

Five strains isolated from grape musts in Spain in 1997, have been characterized by several molecular techniques, and three of them have been identified as pertaining to a new species. All strains are Gram-positive rods, aerotolerant and homofermentative bacteria that do not exhibit catalase activity. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences placed these strains within the genus Lactobacillus, closely related to Lactobacillus mali. DNA-DNA hybridization experiments confirmed that strain 71 belongs to the lately described species L. satsumensis, strain 88 belongs to L. mali and the other three isolates have an independent status at species level. Restriction analysis of the amp…

ANALISI DELLA COMUNITÀ MICROBICA INTESTINALE DI Reculitermes lucifugus (ROSSI) (ISOPTERA: RHINOTERMITIDAE)

2012

Road restraint systems monitoring with stereoscopic dip-technique

2015

Road restraint systems (RRS) are used to protect vehicle occupants from dangerous roadside elements such as rigid obstacles, slopes, utility poles, etc. The crashes on a road restraint system damage its structure and, therefore, the functional behavioral; for this reason is required monitoring the RRS into their operational conditions. The research addresses the problem of the measurement of safety barrier (SB) deformations by means digital image processing technique (DIP). This technique is founded on the analysis of high resolution photos/videos, obtained by means of 3D camera installed into a data vehicle. The DIP technique has been used for evaluating the longitudinal safety barriers de…

Zoe Porphyrogenita and the Varangians

2019
