Abstract Although several investigations of spatial reasoning and mental rotation skills have been conducted in research areas linked to STEM education, to the best of our knowledge, few of these studies have examined the relationship between spatial reasoning and computational thinking. Settore L-ANT/09 - Topografia AnticaSettore L-ANT/07 - Archeologia ClassicaThis work focuses on the problem of cultural contacts between Greek colonists and indigenous communities in the territory of Himera based on the results of the archaeological survey conducted for three decades in the valleys of the northern Imera Torto and S. Leonardo rivers. The elements of material culture that enable us to define the ways of cultural interaction between settlers and indigenous peoples as well as to reconstruct the political socio-economic and sacred landscapes in the various districts investigated are examined. In fact the research allows to outline in addition to the usual settlement and agricultural organizations of chora politiké and éremos chora articulated areas within the territory of Himera and to understand the landmarks of the rural settlement alongside the presence of highland settlements . Therefore the center-periphery approach is abandoned for a more articulated analysis demonstrating different forms of settlement and cultural contact in the three river valleys of the Himera hinterland.

A Proposal to estimate the roaming–dog Total in an urban area through a PPSWOR spatial sampling with sample size greater than two

Settore SECS-S/05 - Statistica SocialeDogs roaming in urban areas constitute an issue for public order hygiene and health. Proper planning of actions for health and security control and allocation of financial funds require the knowledge of the roaming–dog–population size in a given urban area. Unfortunately a reliable statistical procedure aimed to measure such population is not available yet in literature. This paper presents a simple reproducible survey sampling procedure to estimate the number of roaming dogs in an urban area through the description of a real study carried out on a restricted area of the city of Palermo in southern Italy. A sample of areas is drawn by means of a drawn–by–drawn spatial sampling with probabilities proportional to size and without replacement (PPSWOR). As inclusion probabilities are not available in closed form they are estimated by Monte Carlo approach which is of simple implementation and permits design–based variance estimation even when first–order inclusion probabilities are unknown.

A Simple Entropic-Driving Separation Procedure of Low-Size Silver Clusters, Through Interaction with DNA

Abstract Synthesis and purification of metal clusters without strong binding agents by wet chemical methods are very attractive for their potential applications in many research areas. However, especially challenging is the separation of uncharged clusters with only a few number of atoms, which renders the usual techniques very difficult to apply. Herein, we report the first efficient separation of Ag2 and Ag3 clusters using the different entropic driving forces when such clusters interact with DNA, into which Ag3 selectively intercalates.
