Prediction of soil texture distributions using VNIR-SWIR reflectance spectroscopy

Abstract Reflectance spectroscopy provides an alternate method to non-destructively characterize key soil properties. Different approaches, including chemometrics techniques or specific absorption features, have been proposed to estimate soil properties from visible and near-infrared (VNIR, 400-1200 nm) and shortwave infrared (SWIR, 1200-2500 nm) reflectance domains. Prototype selection for the nearest neighbour rule through proximity graphs

Abstract In this paper, the Gabriel and Relative Neighbourhood graphs are used to select a suitable subset of prototypes for the Nearest Neighbour rule. Experiments and results are reported showing the effectiveness of the method and comparing its performance to those obtained by classical techniques.
A Greedy Algorithm for Hierarchical Complete Linkage Clustering

We are interested in the greedy method to compute an hierarchical complete linkage clustering. There are two known methods for this problem, one having a running time of \({\mathcal O}(n^3)\) with a space requirement of \({\mathcal O}(n)\) and one having a running time of \({\mathcal O}(n^2 \log n)\) with a space requirement of Θ(n 2), where n is the number of points to be clustered. Both methods are not capable to handle large point sets. In this paper, we give an algorithm with a space requirement of \({\mathcal O}(n)\) which is able to cluster one million points in a day on current commodity hardware.

Se trata de un comentario dialéctico que sigue los principios metodológicos establecidos por Petrus Ramus y que también este autor aplicó al mismo discurso de Cicerón, que publicó en París en 1551. Approximation of functions over manifolds : A Moving Least-Squares approach

We present an algorithm for approximating a function defined over a $d$-dimensional manifold utilizing only noisy function values at locations sampled from the manifold with noise. To produce the approximation we do not require any knowledge regarding the manifold other than its dimension $d$. We use the Manifold Moving Least-Squares approach of (Sober and Levin 2016) to reconstruct the atlas of charts and the approximation is built on-top of those charts. The resulting approximant is shown to be a function defined over a neighborhood of a manifold, approximating the originally sampled manifold. Purpose of this work is to develop an automatic classification system that could be useful for radiologists in the breast cancer investigation. The software has been designed in the framework of the MAGIC-5 collaboration. In an automatic classification system the suspicious regions with high probability to include a lesion are extracted from the image as regions of interest (ROIs). Each ROI is characterized by some features based generally on morphological lesion differences.
