Debaryomyces hansenii is a yeast widely used in meat fermentations as starter for the purpose of improving the aromatic quality of the final product. However, it has not been the subject of an extensive study regarding phenotypic characteristics important for starter selection, such as the capacity to grow at abiotic stress conditions occurring during fermentation, the ability to generate desirable aromas and the absence of virulence traits in yeasts.
Organotin(IV) Complexes of Aromatic Acid Hydrazides: Preparation and Spectroscopic Studies

Abstract The ability of aromatic acid hydrazides, RCONHNH, to act as bidentate chelating agents towards diorganotin(IV) dichlorides has been investigated. The structure of the complexes were deduced from IR, NMR and Mossbauer spectroscopic techniques in combination with analytical data. The R2SnCI2.L complexes have octahedral geometry where the tin atom is chelated with one ligand (via carbonyl oxygen and hydrazinic nitrogen atoms), two chlorine atoms are in equatorial positions while the R groups are in the axial positions.

Abstract Miniaturized matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) was developed for the extraction of common polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from bivalve samples (100 mg, dry weight). Additional clean-up and analyte enrichment was accomplished by in-tube solid-phase microextraction (SPME). For this purpose the extracts collected after MSPD were diluted with water and injected into a capillary column coated with the extractive phase. This paper describes a work aimed at improving the conditions of an extraction method, coupling GC-MS determination, for the analysis without cleanup phase, of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from sediment samples. The automatic Soxhlet extraction in warm mode (using Extraction System B-811 Standard, Buchi) has demonstrated advantages for automation, reduced extraction time, and lower solvent use than for conventional Soxhlet extraction. Under these conditions, the recoveries are very good as they resulted greater than 85 % and, in most of the cases, near 100 %. Low-Q peak in X-ray patterns of choline-phenylalanine and homophenylalanine: a combined effect of chain and stacking

Abstract In this contribution we report for the first time the X-ray patterns of choline-phenylalanine and choline-homophenylalanine ionic liquids. The presence of a low Q peak in both systems is another evidence that a long alkyl chain is not always needed to establish a nanodomain segregation in the liquid sufficient to be revealed by the diffraction experiment. These new data are compared with the diffraction patterns and the theoretical calculations of other choline-aminoacid ionic liquids recently reported. A significant role might be played by the stacking interactions between aromatic rings.

The role of taste on food preferences has already been investigated, however, little is known about the role of olfaction. The main objectives of this work were to assess infants’ olfactory responses, their dynamic during the first two years of life, and also their links with early food exposures, food liking and infants’ food neophobia. This work was conducted within a longitudinal study named OPALINE (Observatory of food preferences in infants and children).
