Residential Exposure to Outdoor Air Pollution during Pregnancy and Anthropometric Measures at Birth in a Multicenter Cohort in Spain

2011

Background: A growing body of research suggests that prenatal exposure to air pollution may be harmful to fetal development. We assessed the association between exposure to air pollution during pregnancy and anthropometric measures at birth in four areas within the Spanish Children’s Health and Environment (INMA) mother and child cohort study. Methods: Exposure to ambient nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and benzene was estimated for the residence of each woman (n = 2,337) for each trimester and for the entire pregnancy. Outcomes included birth weight, length, and head circumference. The association between residential outdoor air pollution exposure and birth outcomes was assessed with linear regress…

Interactions entre la beta-lactoglobuline et les arômes : impact au niveau moléculaire

2008

Interactions between β-lactoglobulin (BLG) and aroma compounds were investigated by complementary techniques for a better knowledge of binding mechanisms between proteins and aroma compounds at a molecular scale. Two binding sites have been defined for the monomeric BLG, one internal site within the central calyx, and one external site between the calyx and the α helix. In a first step, a relation between the ligand structure and its binding behaviour was established from the study of impact of a wide range of aroma compounds on the structure of native BLG. We evidenced at least two binding behaviours as a function of the chemical class, the hydrophobicity, or the structure of the ligands. …

Interactions texture-flaveur : mécanismes physico-chimiques ou mécanismes cognitifs ? Application à un gel laitier onctueux

2006

Texture, taste and aroma are key components of the perceived quality of foodstuffs. Many studies showed that modifying one of thèse dimensions could modify the perception of another one. However it is not always clear whether thèse interactions could be attributed to physico-chemical or cognitive mechanisms. The présent work aimed at studying sensory interactions between texture, taste and aroma, in relation with the perception of creaminess, an indicator of food quality. A first step consisted in defining the creaminess concept using sensory and verbal approaches. This study highlighted three groups of consumers: creaminess was associated to texture for the first group, to texture and tast…

Comparison of the relative quantities of aroma compounds found in fresh apricot (Prunus armeniaca) from six different varieties

1988

The volatile components of fresh apricot (Prunus armeniaca) were isolated by vacuum distillation and fractionated on a silica gel column. Analysis by gaschromatography coupled with mass spectrometry led to the identification of 82 compounds, 60 of which were found for the first time in this fruit. Six varieties, cultivated in the south of France were compared for their firmness, acidity, sweetness and for their content of 56 volatile components. Precoce de Tyrinthe was the least aromatic variety, but produced fruits very early in the season. Palsteyn gave acidic but rather aromatic fruits. Moniqui possessed large but perishable fruits with flowery aroma due to the presence of terpenic keton…

Mechanistic Studies on the Metal-Free Activation of Dihydrogen by Antiaromatic Pentarylboroles

2012

The perfluoro- and perprotiopentaphenylboroles 1 and 2 react with dihydrogen to effect H-H bond cleavage and formation of boracyclopentene products. The mechanism of this reaction has been studied experimentally through evaluation of the kinetic properties of the slower reaction between 2 and H(2). The reaction is first-order in both [borole] and [H(2)] with activation parameters of ΔH(‡) = 34(8) kJ/mol and ΔS(‡) = -146(25) J mol(-1) K(-1). A minimal kinetic isotope effect of 1.10(5) was observed, suggesting an asynchronous geometry for H-H cleavage in the rate-limiting transition state. To explain the stereochemistry of the observed products, a ring-opening/ring-closing mechanism is propos…

Step growth polymerization via tandem ene and diels-alder reactions

1997

In contrast to other electron deficient enophiles or dienophiles which react with 1,4-cyclohexadiene (1,4-CHD) under aromatization, 1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-diones react in a defined reaction sequence. In a first step the 1,4-cyclohexadiene reacts via an ene-reaction. The intermediately formed substituted 1,3-cyclohexadiene immediately reacts in a Diels-Alder reaction. The regiochemistry of the Diels-Alder reaction is controlled by the solvent polarity. This reaction sequence can be used to synthesize polymers. Low-molar-mass model compounds were synthesized to elucidate the stereochemistry of the polymers. By varying the bistriazolinedione, polymers with backbones of different rigidity are ava…

DFT and experimental studies on structure and spectroscopic parameters of 3,6-diiodo-9-ethyl-9H-carbazole

2015

The first report on crystal and molecular structure of 3,6-diiodo-9-ethyl-9H-carbazole is presented. Experimental room-temperature X-ray and 13C chemical shift studies were supported by advanced theoretical calculations using density functional theory (DFT). The 13C nuclear magnetic shieldings were predicted at the non-relativistic and relativistic level of theory using the zeroth-order regular approximation (ZORA). Theoretical relativistic calculations of chemical shifts of carbons C3 and C6, directly bonded to iodine atoms, produced a reasonable agreement with experiment (initial deviation from experiment of 44.3 dropped to 4.25 ppm). The changes in ring aromatic character via simple harm…

Molecular modeling and experimental studies on structure and NMR parameters of 9-benzyl-3,6-diiodo-9H-carbazole

2015

A combined experimental and theoretical study has been performed on 9-benzyl-3,6-diiodo-9H-carbazole. Experimental X-ray (100.0 K) and room-temperature 13C NMR studies were supported by advanced density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The non relativistic structure optimization was performed and the 13C nuclear magnetic shieldings were predicted at the relativistic level of theory using the Zeroth Order Regular Approximation (ZORA). The changes in the benzene and pyrrole rings compared to the unsubstituted carbazole or the parent molecules were discussed in terms of aromaticity changes using the harmonic oscillator model of aromaticity (HOMA) and the nucleus independent chemical shift…

Interspecific hybridisation among diverse Saccharomyces species: A combined biotechnological solution for low-temperature and nitrogen-limited wine f…

2019

Lack of the prezygotic barrier in the Saccharomyces genus facilitates the construction of artificial interspecific hybrids among different Saccharomyces species. Hybrids that maintain the interesting features of parental strains have been applied in industry for many beneficial purposes. Two of the most important problems faced by wine makers is nitrogen deficiency in grape must and low-temperature fermentation. In our study, hybrids were constructed by using selected low nitrogen-demanding cryotolerant S. eubayanus, S. uvarum strains and S. cerevisiae. The fermentation capacity of the hybrid strains was tested under four conditions by combining two temperatures, 12 °C and 28 °C, and two ni…
