Temporal and Spatial Evolution of Cortical Blood Flow in the Penumbra of Venous Infarcts

A cortical venous infarction model has been evaluated regarding the temporal and spatial evolution of regional flow reduction. Two cortical veins were occluded photochemically with rose bengal and fiberoptic illumination. Seven rats served to demonstrate effects on regional cortical blood flow using laser Doppler scanning. After two-vein occlusion, there was a widespread reduction of flow that gradually deteriorated after vein occlusion when regional cortical flow in a 3.5 x 7.0 mm window: after 15 min it had decreased to 57.8% ± 8.0%, and after 75 min it was 34.3% ± 5.4%. The analysis of nonlinear couplings among cardiovascular variability series can improve the knowledge of the cardioregulatory mechanism and help to understand how it can be affected by pathologies. In this study, the influences of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) on the causal relationships between the heart period and the arterial pressure were investigated by a nonlinear dynamic approach based on the corrected cross-conditional entropy. Usability of photoplethysmography method in estimation of conduit artery stiffness

Three channel photoplethysmography (PPG) signal waveform studies of leg conduit arteries during a provocative occlusion test were performed. PPG waveform second derivative amplitude ratio and arterial pulse wave velocity values showed significant correlations with ultrasound (US) reference method of local and regional arterial stiffness (AS), showing the ability to use PPG for AS change quantitative assessment.

Epistaxis is a symptom and one of the most frequent medical emergencies. In most cases haemorrhages concern the anterior parts of the septum, in particular the Locus Kiesselbachi. Thus they are harmless and therapy is easy to handle, We report a case of a 55-year-old lady with relapsing epistaxis due to a pseudoaneurysm after surgery of a meningioma of the sphenoid bone. This type of epistaxis is rare and may culminate into a life-threatening event. The case demonstrates the importance of an exact differential diagnostic evaluation by use of modern imaging techniques for severe and life-threatening symptomatic nose-bleeding.

Renal transplantation followed by immunosuppression with cyclosporine (whole-blood levels 200-300 micrograms/l) and methylprednisolone (4 mg daily) was performed in a 54-year-old man with chronic glomerulonephritis. Three years later rapidly progressive arterial obstructive disease (peripheral type) developed. Parenteral treatment with prostaglandins, calcium antagonists and nitrates, as well as a lumbar sympathectomy, was unsuccessful so that, in rapid succession, several amputations on upper and lower limbs became necessary. Purpose: To investigate cerebral blood flow (CBF) differences in patients with left- and right-sided pulsatile tinnitus (LPT and RPT) and healthy controls (HCs) to further explore the lateralization effects of PT using arterial spin labeling (ASL). Methods: ASL data from 21 RPT patients, 17 LPT patients and 21 HCs were reviewed. Voxel-wise analysis and region of interest analysis were performed to explore differences in CBF among the three groups.
