Gimema Registry of Conception/Pregnancy in Adult Patients Diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) Treated with Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors (TKIs)
2014
Abstract The management of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) during pregnancy is a matter of continuous debate. The introduction of the tyrosin kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in clinical practice has dramatically changed the prognosis of CML patients. Patients diagnosed in chronic phase can expect an excellent disease control and a normal lifespan. Issues relating to fertility and pregnancy must be introduced at diagnosis. Different reports were published in patients conceving/getting pregnant during Imatinib treatment, while there are only sporadic data about other TKIs. The GIMEMA CML working party has started a retrospective and prospective study to describe all female pregnancies/m…

In particolare, l’articolo presenta alcuni mo…
Semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase/vascular adhesion protein-1 deficiency reduces leukocyte infiltration into adipose tissue and favors fat deposi…
2009
1525-2191 (Electronic) Journal Article; Obesity is associated with low-grade inflammation and leukocyte infiltration in white adipose tissue (WAT) and is linked to diabetic complications. Semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase, also known as vascular adhesion protein-1 (SSAO/VAP-1), is a membrane protein that is highly expressed in adipocytes and is also present on the endothelial cell surface where it is involved in leukocyte extravasation. We studied fat deposition and leukocyte infiltration in WAT of mice with a null mutation in the amine oxidase copper-containing-3 (AOC3) gene encoding SSAO/VAP-1. Both epididymal and inguinal WATs were larger in 6-month-old AOC3-KO males than in age-matc…
Role of S128R polymorphism of E-selectin in colon metastasis formation.
2007
The extravasation of cancer cells is a key step of the metastatic cascade. Polymorphisms in genes encoding adhesion molecules can facilitate metastasis by increasing the strength of interaction between tumor and endothelial cells as well as impacting other properties of cancer cells. We investigated the Ser128Arg (a561c at the nucleotide level) polymorphism in the E-selectin gene in patients with metastatic colon cancer and its functional significance. Genotyping for a561c polymorphism was performed on 172 cancer patients and on an age-matched control population. The colon cancer group was divided into groups with (M+) and without observable metastasis (M−). For in vitro functional assays, …
Effect of the surface charge of liposomes on their uptake by angiogenic tumor vessels
2003
Recently, cationic liposomes have been shown to preferentially target the angiogenic endothelium of tumors. It was the aim of our study to investigate the influence of liposomal surface charge on the uptake and kinetics of liposomes into solid tumors and tumor vasculature. Experiments were performed in the amelanotic hamster melanoma A-Mel-3 growing in the dorsal skinfold chamber preparation of male Syrian golden hamsters. Fluorescently labeled liposomes with different surface charge were prepared. Accumulation of i.v. injected liposomes was assessed by quantitative intravital fluorescence microscopy of tumor and surrounding host tissue. The histological distribution of liposomes was analyz…
Cardiovascular Toxicity in Cancer Patients Treated with Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors: A Real-World Single-Center Experience
2019
Background: Target therapy can cause various cardiovascular complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the burden of cardiovascular complications related to treatment with anti-BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and to determine if there are differences between the latest- and first-generation TKIs. Methods: A retrospective observational study was carried out on 55 patients (39 men, 16 women; mean age ± SD: 58 ± 11 years) treated with TKIs targeting Bcr-Abl for a median period of 3.5 years. Patients were divided in two groups according to the type of treatment. Group A included patients treated with…
Effects of taurine on pulmonary responses to antigen in sensitized Brown-Norway rats.
2001
Oxidative stress appears relevant to asthma. Therefore, the effects of the antioxidant taurine (oral, 1 and 3 mmol x kg(-1) x day(-1) for 7 days before challenge) were examined on antigen-induced responses in sensitized Brown-Norway rats. Taurine did not reduce the bronchospasm produced by aerosol antigen but prevented airway hyperreactivity to 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) at 24 h after antigen exposure, and reduced the eosinophils (from 0.178+/-0.038x10(6) to 0.044+/-0.014x10(6)* and 0.048+/-0.013x10(6)* cells ml(-1) in antigen and antigen+taurine 1 or 3 mmol x kg(-1), respectively; *P0.05 vs. antigen), lipid hydroperoxides, and Evans blue dye extravasation in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid.
