Gelatinase A (MMP-2) and gelatinase B (MMP-9) play a key role in the proteolytic cascade leading to ECM degradation during invasion and metastasis. The enzyme activity is regulated both at the intra- and extra-cellular level. The carotid body is a neural-crest-derived organ devoted to respiratory homeostasis through sensing changes in blood oxygen levels. The sensory units are the glomeruli composed of clusters of neuronal-like (type I) cells surrounded by glial-like (type II) cells. During chronic hypoxia, the carotid body shows growth, with increasing neuronal-like cell numbers. SummaryTwenty-two patients with proven vaginal trichomoniasis were treated with a single dose of 2 g. tinidazole. Twenty-one patients were cured, at both the early and the late follow-up visits. No side-effects were noted and no abnormalities of the clinical laboratory parameters were found in the trial. A historical comparison with published works was carried out and the results compared favourably with those found in the literature for tinidazole as well as for other agents used in a similar fashion.

BACKGROUND: To date an accurate evaluation of predictive markers in breast cancer is mainly conducted at the primary site, although the main goal of the adjuvant therapy is the control of micrometastases. Adjuvant therapy drugs need a high proliferative cell rate to be effective.
