Eco-genetics of desiccation resistance in Drosophila.

International audience; Climate change globally perturbs water circulation thereby influencing ecosystems including cultivated land. Both harmful and beneficial species of insects are likely to be vulnerable to such changes in climate. As small animals with a disadvantageous surface area to body mass ratio, they face a risk of desiccation. A number of behavioural, physiological and genetic strategies are deployed to solve these problems during adaptation in various Drosophila species. Empowering education professionals with twenty-first century skills through master's of education dissertation/thesis work

This paper aims to explore the potential role of Master’s of Education dissertation/thesis work in developing twenty-first century skills. A total of 600 education professionals studying Master’s of Education programmes in five countries – Poland, Portugal, England, Latvia, and Romania – were surveyed. The findings have revealed that participants recognise the usefulness of twenty-first century skills for their (future) professional practice, and perceive dissertation/thesis work as a valuable foundation for developing these skills. Kinematics and U-Pb zircon ages of the sole metamorphics of the Marmaris Ophiolite, Lycian Nappes, Southwest Turkey

In the eastern Mediterranean, the Lycian Nappes are found in the structurally uppermost position in the Anatolide-Tauride belt related to the closure of the Neotethys. In Western Turkey, the Marmaris Ophiolite with the metamorphic sole occupies the uppermost tectonic position in the Lycian belt. The metamorphic sole is represented by discontinuous tectonic slices composed of amphibolites, phyllites, micashists and quartzo-feldspathic micaschists. Zircons from the micashists and quartzo-feldspathic micaschists display dark cores and rims. Resilience to flash floods in wetland communities of northeastern Bangladesh

Globally, a number of catastrophic hydrometeorological hazards occurred in 2017 among which the monsoon floods in South Asia was particularly disastrous, killing nearly 1200 people in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. The wetland region (Haor) of northeastern (NE) Bangladesh was severely affected by flash floods early in 2017, affecting nearly 1 million households and damaging US $450 million worth of rice crops. Abstract The Indian border region of Ladakh, in Jammu and Kashmir State, has a sensitive Himalayan ecosystem and has experienced natural hazards and disasters of varying scales over the decades.
