Chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oils of some species of Anthemis sect. Anthemis (Asteraceae) from Sicily

2017

The chemical composition of the essential oils isolated from the aerial parts of Anthemis arvensis L. subsp. arvensis, Anthemis cretica subsp. messanensis (Brullo) Giardina & Raimondo and from flowers and leaves of Anthemis cretica subsp. columnae (Ten.) Frezén were determinated by GC–FID and GC–MS analyses. Torreyol (85.4%) was recognised as the main constituent of the Anthemis arvensis subsp. arvensis essential oil, while in the essential oils of Anthemis cretica subsp. messanensis, collected on the rock and cultivated in Hortus Botanicus Panormitanus, (E)-chrysanthenyl acetate (28.8 and 24.2% resp.), 14-hydroxy-α-humulene (8.1 and 5.3% resp.), santolina triene (8 and 5.8% resp.) and …

«Den dagen PC-en går i stykker, da er mye av min verden gått i stykker» : En kvalitativ studie om eldres bruk av Duka-PC

2019

Masteroppgave klinisk helsevitenskap ME520 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 Background:Information and communication technology (ICT) affects our everyday lives and the government wants it to be equal opportunities for everyone despite gender, age, background and economy. Many seniors want to be an active player in this digital everyday life. However, lack of knowledge and skills may affectthe confidence to get started. Technological solutions are needed that canmeet their needs and which are adjusted to the functional impairments the individual may have. The importance of facilitated training and user-friendly equipment can be of great value to achieve a greater degree of mastering and confide…

Clinical spectrum of movement disorders after stroke in childhood and adulthood.

2011

Although rare, many different types of hyperkinetic and hypokinetic movement disorders have been described after both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke in children and in adults. Current knowledge about these disorders comes from single case reports or small series of cases compiled from retrospective studies. Data from hospital-based studies suggest a prevalence of poststroke movement disorders ranging from 1.1 to 3.9%. However, despite the development of emergency care for stroke, these clinical syndromes remain insufficiently recognized. Poststroke movement disorders take place in the acute phase or following a variable delay after stroke onset, and could be transient or persistent. Dyston…

Latvijas iedzīvotāju dzīves līmeņa analīze

2015

Effects of Cucumber mosaic virus and Aster yellows phytoplasma (16SrI-B) on the quality of Echinacea purpurea essential oil.

2011

Echinacea purpurea Moench (L.), known as purple coneflower, is one of the most important medicinal plants, used worldwide for its immunostimulant, bacteriostatic and anti-inflammatory properties, as natural drug and/or food supplement (as infusion). In a previous study carried out in 2002 in Italy to verify possible influence of viral infectious on the plant oil composition, the oil from plants (grown at the Herb Garden of Casola Valsenio, Emilia Romagna region) infected by Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) was compared to the one from healthy plant by combined gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analyses. Significant quantitative variations in their compositions were verified; the infec…

Within-host evolution decreases virulence in an opportunistic bacterial pathogen

2015

Abstract Background Pathogens evolve in a close antagonistic relationship with their hosts. The conventional theory proposes that evolution of virulence is highly dependent on the efficiency of direct host-to-host transmission. Many opportunistic pathogens, however, are not strictly dependent on the hosts due to their ability to reproduce in the free-living environment. Therefore it is likely that conflicting selection pressures for growth and survival outside versus within the host, rather than transmission potential, shape the evolution of virulence in opportunists. We tested the role of within-host selection in evolution of virulence by letting a pathogen Serratia marcescens db11 sequent…

On the co-orbital asteroids in the solar system: medium-term timescale analysis of the quasi-coplanar objects

2023

The focus of this work is the current distribution of asteroids in co-orbital motion with Venus, Earth and Jupiter, under a quasi-coplanar configuration and for a medium-term timescale of the order of 900 years. A co-orbital trajectory is a heliocentric orbit trapped in a 1:1 mean-motion resonance with a given planet. As such, to model it this work considers the Restricted Three-Body Problem in the planar circular case with the help of averaging techniques. The domain of each co-orbital regime, that is, the quasi-satellite motion, the horseshoe motion and the tadpole motion, can be neatly defined by means of an integrable model and a simple two-dimensional map, that is invariant with respec…

From impact refugees to deterritorialized states: Foresighting extreme legal-policy cases in asteroid impact scenarios

2022

Throughout recorded history, humans have crossed national borders to seek safety in nearby countries. The reasons for displacement have been generated by phenomena of terrestrial origin, but exposure to unexpected extra-terrestrial threats poses a different scenario. An asteroid impact warning implies a change of paradigm which would represent a historic precedent. In this regard, the analogies with natural disasters must be considered, along with multiple possible scenarios, and legal aspects related to (a) the legal framework to regulate this situation; (b) the action and responsibility of the states; and (c) the definition of impact refugee and the reconfiguration of traditional concepts…

Assessing forest landscape structure using geographic windows.

2001

Landscape structure, interpreted as indicator of functional processes, has become a main attribute of multiresource forest inventories, enhancing its value with respect to society needs. This approach implies effective use of earth observation techniques and geographic information systems to obtain a global view of the inventoried landscapes and to understand the ecological functions of large spatially-heterogeneous landscape mosaics. Landscape structure often reveal extremely complex patterns that can only be very roughly characterized by methods of Euclidean geometry. Conversely, fractals can be applied to adequately describe many of the irregular, fragmented patterns found in nature. In …
