Materiały do rozmieszczenia pluskwiaków różnoskrzydłych (Hemiptera: Heteropte-ra) wybranych obszarów Polski: Podlasie, Puszcza Białowieska, Wyżyna Lu…
2019
Eastern part of Poland is unevenly examined according to distribution of terrestrial true-bugs. Among well studied zoogeographical regions (Wyżyna Lubelska, Beskid Wschodni, Roztocze), true-bugs fauna of others like Podlasie and Nizina Sandomierska is poorly documented. The paper presents new faunistic data on the occurrence of true-bugs Heteroptera in Eastern Poland. Localities were scattered in 17 UTM squares in five zoogeographical regions: Podlasie, Puszcza Białowieska, Wyżyna Lubelska, Nizina Sandomierska and Roztocze. In total we present the data concerning 58 true-bug species. Ceratocombus coleoptratus and Microporus nigrita are listed for the first time from Podlasie, whilst Piloph…
Manganese effects on haematopoietic cells and circulating coelomocytes of Asterias rubens (Linnaeus)
2008
Abstract Manganese (Mn) is a naturally abundant metal in marine sediments where it mainly occurs as MnO 2 . During hypoxic conditions it is converted into a bioavailable state, Mn 2+ , and can reach levels that previously have shown effects on immune competent cells of the crustacean, Nephrops norvegicus . Here we investigated if Mn also affects circulating coelomocytes and their renewal in the common sea star, Asterias rubens , when exposed to concentrations of Mn that can be found in nature. When the sea stars were exposed to Mn it accumulated in the coelomic fluid and the number of circulating coelomocytes, in contrast to what was recorded in Nephrops , increased significantly. By using …
Gypsy homologous sequences in Drosophila subobscura (gypsyDS).
1993
Characterization of sequences homologous to the Drosophila melanogaster gypsy transposable element was carried out in Drosophila subobscura (gypsyDS). They were found to be widely distributed among natural populations of this species. From Southern blot and in situ analyses, these sequences appear to be mobile in this species. GypsyDS sequences are located in both euchromatic and heterochromatic regions. A complete gypsyDS sequence was isolated from a D. subobscura genomic library, and a 1.3-kb fragment which aligns with the ORF2 of the D. melanogaster gypsy element was sequenced. Comparisons of this sequence in three species (D. subobscura, D. melanogaster, and D. virilis) indicate that th…

Hieracium madoniense(Asteraceae) – a new species from Sicily
2007
Abstract A new endemic species of Hieracium is described from the Madonie Mountains (northern Sicily). Named Hieracium madoniense, this new taxon is confined to the Rocca di Mele, along the borders of Fagus sylvatica woods, on carbonate substrate. Relationships with the closest taxa are discussed.
Hieracium pallidum subsp. aetnense (Asteraceae), a new subspecies from Sicily (Italy), with notes on the taxonomy of H. pallidum Biv.
2013
Hieracium pallidum subsp. aetnense Gottschl., Raimondo & Di Grist. is described and illustrated. H.pallidum is considered as an intermediate species between H. schmidtii and H. racemosum (“schmidtii>racemosum”) and is placed in H. sect. Grovesiana. By consequence, H.lanudae Gottschl. is transferred to H. pallidum as H. pallidum subsp. lanudae (Gottschl.) Gottschl., Raimondo & Di Grist. A key for the three recognised subspecies of H. pallidum is provided.
Magneto-elastic oscillations of neutron stars: exploring different magnetic field configurations
2012
We study magneto-elastic oscillations of highly magnetized neutron stars (magnetars) which have been proposed as an explanation for the quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) appearing in the decaying tail of the giant flares of soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs). We extend previous studies by investigating various magnetic field configurations, computing the Alfvn spectrum in each case and performing magneto-elastic simulations for a selected number of models. By identifying the observed frequencies of 28 Hz (SGR 1900+14) and 30 Hz (SGR 1806-20) with the fundamental Alfvn QPOs, we estimate the required surface magnetic field strength. For the magnetic field configurations investigated (dipole…
Flavour mixing transport theory and resonant leptogenesis
2021
We derive non-equilibrium quantum transport equations for flavour-mixing fermions. We develop the formalism mostly in the context of resonant leptogenesis with two mixing Majorana fermions and one lepton flavour, but our master equations are valid more generally in homogeneous and isotropic systems. We give a hierarchy of quantum kinetic equations, valid at different approximations, that can accommodate helicity and arbitrary mass differences. In the mass-degenerate limit the equations take the familiar form of density matrix equations. We also derive the semiclassical Boltzmann limit of our equations, including the CP-violating source, whose regulator corresponds to the flavour coherence d…
Quantum gravitational decoherence from fluctuating minimal length and deformation parameter at the Planck scale
2020
Schemes of gravitationally induced decoherence are being actively investigated as possible mechanisms for the quantum-to-classical transition. Here, we introduce a decoherence process due to quantum gravity effects. We assume a foamy quantum spacetime with a fluctuating minimal length coinciding on average with the Planck scale. Considering deformed canonical commutation relations with a fluctuating deformation parameter, we derive a Lindblad master equation that yields localization in energy space and decoherence times consistent with the currently available observational evidence. Compared to other schemes of gravitational decoherence, we find that the decoherence rate predicted by our mo…
Using Slack for computer-mediated communication to support higher education students’ peer interactions during Master’s thesis seminar
2018
Our study contributes to the research on computer-mediated communication in higher education by experimenting a modern communication tool called Slack. In particular, we consider using Slack to support students’ peer interactions during Master’s thesis work. For this purpose, we designed a case study that was executed in a Master’s thesis seminar course. During the course, all out-of-class communication was carried out by using Slack, instead of e-mails or learning management systems. After the course, we used a questionnaire to investigate how the students perceived Slack for asking for assistance, their intention to use Slack, and Slack’s ease of use. Furthermore, the questionnaire asked …
