"Ratio of observed limits to SSM cross section" of "Search for high-mass dilepton resonances using 139 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data collected at …
2019
Ratio of the observed limit to the Z'$_\mathrm{SSM}$ cross-section for the combination of the dielectron and dimuon channels. A number of previous ATLAS results at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7, 8, and 13 TeV are compared to the current search.

Atlas of Variations in Medical Practice in Spain: The Spanish National Health Service under scrutiny
2012
Early in the 2000s, a countrywide health services research initiative was launched under the acronym of Atlas VPM: Atlas of Variations in Medical Practice in the Spanish National Health System. This initiative aimed at describing systematic and unwarranted variations in medical practice at geographic level-building upon the seminal experience of the Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care. The paper aims at explaining the Spanish Atlas experience, built upon the pioneer Dartmouth inspiration. A few selected examples will be used along the following sections to illustrate the outlined conceptual framework, the different factors that may affect variation, and some methodological challenges.
Breeding abundance of threatened raptors as estimated from occurrence data
2008
A model derived from the negative binomial distribution (NBD) has been proposed to solve the problem of predicting abundance of species from occurrence maps. The viability of NBD was explored for predicting the breeding abundance of five threatened species of raptor: Bonelli's Eagle Hieraaetus fasciatus, Golden Eagle Aquila chrysaetos, Peregrine Falco peregrinus, Lanner Falco biarmicus and Lesser Kestrel Falco naumanni. First, the accuracy of the NBD was tested in a reference area where the species abundance and occurrence were known through intensive field surveys. Next, an estimation of regional abundance derived from NBD was made for each species. These estimates were then compared to th…
A New Preclinical Decision Support System Based on PET Radiomics: A Preliminary Study on the Evaluation of an Innovative 64Cu-Labeled Chelator in Mou…
2022
The 64Cu-labeled chelator was analyzed in vivo by positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to evaluate its biodistribution in a murine model at different acquisition times. For this purpose, nine 6-week-old female Balb/C nude strain mice underwent micro-PET imaging at three different time points after 64Cu-labeled chelator injection. Specifically, the mice were divided into group 1 (acquisition 1 h after [64Cu] chelator administration, n = 3 mice), group 2 (acquisition 4 h after [64Cu]chelator administration, n = 3 mice), and group 3 (acquisition 24 h after [64Cu] chelator administration, n = 3 mice). Successively, all PET studies were segmented by means of registration with a standard te…
Knowledge Discovery and Digital Cartography for the ALS (Linguistic Atlas of Sicily) Project
2009
In this paper the latest developments of the ALS (Linguistic Atlas of Sicily) project are presented. The ALS project has the purpose to define methodologies and tools to allow researches in the socio-linguistic field. Different types of variables (both quantitative and qualitative) are involved. The whole framework is based on the definition of ontology-based applications for the creation, retrieval, manipulation and browsing of related data. To this aim, some mapping processes have been defined. The framework eventually shows the result in many ways including spatial maps. The on-going collaboration process is a perfect example a domain hybridizing process, enabling the training on-the-fie…

Knowledge discovery for the linguistic atlas of sicily project
2010
Theidentificationofnewusefulpatternsindataisacorepro- cess for intelligent systems. In this work a knowledge discovery method- ology to retrieve useful and novel information from data stored in a DBMS. This methodology is mainly used in the ALS (Linguistic Atlas of Sicily) Project. The ALS project is a joint effort led by researchers at the Dipartimento di Scienze Filologiche e Linguistiche of the University of Palermo that has the purpose to track and study the geo-linguistic and lexicographic processes about the function and usage of the Sicilian di- alect. The whole framework is based on the definition of ontology-based applications for the creation, retrieval, manipulation and browsing …
Collective Reasoning over Shared Concepts for the Linguistic Atlas of Sicily
2013
In this chapter, collective intelligence principles are applied in the context of the Linguistic Atlas of Sicily (ALS - Atlante Linguistico Siciliano), an interdisciplinary research focusing on the study of the Italian language as it is spoken in Sicily, and its correlation with the Sicilian dialect and other regional varieties spoken in Sicily. The project has been developed over the past two decades and includes a complex information system supporting linguistic research; recently it has grown to allow research scientists to cooperate in an integrated environment to produce significant scientific advances in the field of ethnologic and sociolinguistic research. An interoperable infrastruc…
Entropy-based Localization of Textured Regions
2011
Appearance description is a relevant field in computer vision that enables object recognition in domains as re-identification, retrieval and classification. Important cues to describe appearance are colors and textures. However, in real cases, texture detection is challenging due to occlusions and to deformations of the clothing while person's pose changes. Moreover, in some cases, the processed images have a low resolution and methods at the state of the art for texture analysis are not appropriate. In this paper, we deal with the problem of localizing real textures for clothing description purposes, such as stripes and/or complex patterns. Our method uses the entropy of primitive distribu…
