A low repeat length in oligodendrocyte chromatin
1985
Abstract: The behavior of oligodendrocyte chromatin after micrococcal nuclease digestion of nuclei was assayed in brains of rats of four different ages. During oligodendrocyte differentiation, a decreasing sensitivity of the chromatin to enzymatic attack was observed. On the other hand, the nucleosomal repeat length showed a slight tendency to increase during development. It is worth noting that even the highest values reported here for “oligodendrocyte’ chromatin repeat lengths are significantly lower than 200 base pairs, the value previously reported by others for “non‐astrocytic glia.” Copyright © 1985, Wiley Blackwell. Usefulness of omp1 restriction mapping for avian Chlamydia psittaci isolate differentiation
1995
Abstract Sixty-five avian Chlamydia psittaci isolates collected worldwide, including 27 previously characterized reference strains, were analysed by restriction mapping of the major outer membrane protein gene ( omp1 ) obtained after DMA amplification by PCR. They were compared to 2 ruminant isolates, a feline pneumonitis and a guinea pig inclusion conjunctivitis (GPIC) isolate. According to their omp1 restriction patterns, avian strains were heterogeneous in that they exhibited 6 and 4 distinct patterns using Alu I and Mbo II restriction enzymes, respectively, thus defining 7 groups. However, 84% of the studied strains belonged to groups 1 to 4, which share a specific fragment triplet of 4…
Characterization of cells involved in the formation of granuloma. An ultrastructural study on macrophages, epitheloid cells, and giant cells in exper…
1981
In experimental tubulo-interstitial (anti-basement membrane) nephritis of the rat, granulomatous inflammation develops around immunologically altered tubular basement membranes. The present light- and electron microscopic studies indicate that in the course of the granulomatous reaction, tissue monocytes evolve from blood monocytes and pursue two independent pathways of differentation. On the one hand they may differentiate into macrophages ("distant from tubules") or, alternatively, into epitheloid cells ("adjacent to tubules"). The latter, through cell fusion, develop into multinucleated giant cells of the Langhans' type. The cytoplasmic components of the epitheloid cells and the multinuc…
IMPORTANCE OF BAT UNDERGROUND ROOSTS AND LONG-TERM CHANGES OF BAT POPULATIONS IN LATVIA
2013
Anotācija Darbā aplūkotas trīs tēmas: sikspārņu ziemošanas mītņu raksturojums, šo mītņu izmantošana dažādās sezonās un ziemojošo un migrējošo sikspārņu populāciju skaita izmaiņas. Analizēti 35 gadu laikā Latvijā ievākti dati par 994 ziemojošo sikspārņu sugu izmantotajām ziemas mītnēm. Izvērtēta šo mītņu nozīmība dažādām ziemojošajām sikspārņu sugām un aplūkota to izmantošana citās sezonās.
2016
The little known impact of bats and bat guano in the late stages of cave morphogenesis. Bats are considered as symbolic caves inhabitants. The colonies, sometimes huge, may occupy caves through long periods. Large guano deposits were accumulated. Some have been mined for phosphates, either by hand or at the industrial scale. Bats impact is triple: breathing releases CO2, urine is corrosive, and guano mineralization releases acids (carbonic, nitric, sulfuric, and phosphoric). Such aggressive compounds have an effect on carbonate rock and flowstones, either by direct ground corrosion at the contact of the guano, or by condensation-corrosion on walls and ceilings. The speleogenetic impact of t…
Spinal epidural abscess due to acute pyelonephritis
2022
Background: Spinal epidural abscesses are rare and are misdiagnosed in up to 75% of cases. Fever, back pain, and neurological deficits are part of the classical triad. Here, the authors report a patient with a L2–L5 spinal epidural abscess with the left paravertebral extension attributed to acute pyelonephritis. Case Description: A 54-year-old female presented with persistent low back pain and lower extremity weakness accompanied by paresthesias. Previously, she had been hospitalized with the left acute pyelonephritis. The lumbosacral MRI documented a T12/L5 anterior epidural abscess with ring enhancement on the contrast study; the maximum diameter of the abscess at the L2–L3 level contrib…

Verso una dimensione narrativa delle mappe
2021
