Assessment of Periodontal status in Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis : a retrospective, case-control study
2021
Background Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and periodontitis both represent chronic inflammatory disorders that share similar pathophysiological processes. However, very few studies have been done to address the link between the two diseases which remains poorly understood. The present study aimed to assess and compare the periodontal status in patients suffering from PsA and systemically healthy subjects to identify whether a possible association exists between PsA and periodontitis. Material and Methods Periodontal parameters – PI, BOP, mGI, PPD and CAL were recorded in 110 patients with PsA and 110 age- and gender-matched systemically healthy patients. Mean values of the periodontal parameters…
Exploring the role of music therapy in attachment, identity & creativity : a case study
2016
Music therapy has been implemented within healthcare to treat individual’s suffering from various forms of illness today. Music and the creative process are a fundamental component human life, bringing order to inner chaos and understanding to our human experience. However the intricacies of the creative process within clinical music therapy leaves many question unanswered and its tangible effects often remain illusive to those outside of the therapeutic process. This case aims to illustrate the unique music therapy process of Mary, a young woman suffering from emotional, identity and attachment problems. This case also seeks to document and explore how the therapeutic relationship and the …
Expression of the human complement C8 subunits is independently regulated by interleukin 1β, interleukin 6, and interferon γ
1998
The eighth component of human complement (C8) is composed of two subunits which are products from three separate genes. The alpha-gamma- and the beta-subunit of C8 are expressed independently, and are part of the membrane attack complex. C8 is primarily synthesized in the liver. It has been shown in previous studies that the human hepatoma cell line HepG2 constitutively expresses C8, and thus is a suitable model system for studying C8 biosynthesis in vitro. Expression is modulated by the cytokines IL-1 beta, IL-6 and IFN-gamma. The effect of the different cytokines on the expression of these subunits was examined using biosynthetical labelling and immunoprecipitation methods. C8 alpha-gamma…
Complement and Atherogenesis
1999
Abstract —Complement activation occurs in temporal correlation with the subendothelial deposition of LDL during early atherogenesis, and complement also plays a pathogenetic role in promoting lesion progression. Two lesion components have been identified that may be responsible for complement activation. First, enzymatic degradation of LDL generates a derivative that can spontaneously activate complement, and enzymatically degraded LDL (E-LDL) has been detected in the lesions. Second, C-reactive protein (CRP) colocalizes with complement C5b-9, as evidenced by immunohistological studies of early atherosclerotic lesions, so the possibility exists that this acute phase protein also fulfills a…
A purity monitoring system for liquid argon calorimeters
2005
Abstract For liquid argon calorimeters electronegative impurities dissolved in the medium degrade the detector response and deteriorate the energy resolution, especially at high energies. A concept for a purity monitoring system for liquid argon calorimeters has been developed and is presented here. Special combined monitors of 241 Am- and 207 Bi-cells are used to monitor the concentration of impurities. The working principle as well as results from test measurements are discussed.
Pētījuma instrumentārijā tika izmantotas trīs aptaujas- Piesaistes stilu aptauja (ASI; Sperling & Berman, 1991), Lielā Piecinieka aptauja (BFI; The Big Five Inventory, John & Srivastava, 1999) …
Dynamics of institutional and family ties of the child placed in foster care : the contribution of attachment theory and the psychodynamic approach
2019
This research studies dynamics of the institutional and family ties of the foster child with a complementary approach that articulates attachment theory and a psychodynamic perspective. METHODOLOGY. Through a mixed (quantitative and qualitative) and longitudinal (one year) methodology, the research was conducted with ten children (N=10) who have just arrived for the first time in foster care and professionals (N=17) who surround them. Tools used were the CCH, RQ, Ca-mir, Edicode (for attachment) and projective proofs of drawings with semi-structured clinical research interviews (for transfer and counter-transfer investments). RESULTS. Results show that children who have just arrived in fost…

Psychometric properties of the parental bonding instrument in a Spanish sample.
1993
The Parental Bonding Instrument was translated into Spanish and administered to a sample of 205 Spanish primiparae 3 days after childbirth. Reliability, factorial structure and predictive validity for affective disorders were evaluated. The Spanish version of the PBI has psychometric features similar to those described in other cultures. However, the results suggest that in future research the predictive power of the “Control” factor in affective disorders might be improved by splitting it into two subfactors: “Overprotection” and “Restraint”.
