Maternal effects in vulnerability to eye-parasites and correlations between behavior and parasitism in juvenile Arctic charr

Hatchery-reared fish show high mortalities after release to the wild environment. Explanations for this include potentially predetermined genetics, behavioral, and physiological acclimation to fish farm environments, and increased vulnerability to predation and parasitism in the wild. We studied vulnerability to Diplostomum spp. parasites (load of eye flukes in the lenses), immune defense (relative spleen size) and antipredator behaviors (approaches toward predator odor, freezing, and swimming activity) in hatchery-reared juvenile Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) using a nested mating design. Data-based modeling of vehicle collision by LPV-ARMAX model approach

Vehicle crash are considered to be events with high complexity from the mathematical points of view. The high experiment cost and huge time-consumption make the establishment of a mathematical model of vehicle crash which can simplify the analysis process in great demand. In this work, we present the application of LPV-ARMAX model to simulate the car-to-pole collision with different initial impact velocities. An Intelligent Car Driver for safe Navigation with Fuzzy Obstacle Avoidance.

In order to respond effectively to the environment uncertainties, autonomous vehicles are generally equipped with sensors. The proposed car guidance system is equipped with an intelligent controller, based on fuzzy logic, which calculates the speed and wheels orientation in order to follow a path while it is avoiding unknown obstacles. Better fluidity of driving are obtained using future-path, car dimension and car position prevision. Vehicle symmetries also speed-up and simplify the guidance system reducing the inputs and the rules numbers.

We have been developing a MKR (Muratec Keio Robot), an autonomous omni-directional mobile transfer robot system for hospital applications. This robot has a wagon truck to transfer luggage, important specimens and other materials. In this paper I argue that Rawlsian Law of People (LP) is much more useful to the debate on international distributive justice than it is commonly assumed by many leading political philosophers (Pogge, Nussbaum, Sen, Beitz, Singer). I will show: 1) that these criticisms are misleading, insofar as they do not take the concept of basic structure seriously, and they reduce LP to an instance of ethical statism or of acritical acceptance of cultural pluralism; 2) that the basic domestic structures, and the principles that govern them, depend on the law of peoples and its principles as well. Both Batesian and Müllerian mimicries are considered classical evidence of natural selection where predation pressure has, at times, created a striking similarity between unrelated prey species. Batesian mimicry, in which palatable mimics resemble unpalatable aposematic species, is parasitic and only beneficial to the mimics. Statistical analysis of latency outcomes in behavioral experiments

In experimental designs of animal models, memory is often assessed by the time for a performance measure to occur (latency). Depending on the cognitive test, this may be the time it takes an animal to escape to a hidden platform (water maze), an escape tunnel (Barnes maze) or to enter a dark component (passive avoidance test). Latency outcomes are usually statistically analyzed using ANOVAs. Besides strong distributional assumptions, ANOVA cannot properly deal with animals not showing the performance measure within the trial time, potentially causing biased and misleading results.
