Finding new treatments targeting cancer stem cells (CSCs) within a tumor seems to be critical to halt cancer and improve patient survival. Osteosarcoma is an aggressive tumor affecting adolescents, for which there is no second-line chemotherapy. Langer-Giedion syndrome with interstitial 8q-deletion.

We describe a 12-year-old girl with Langer-Giedion syndrome (tricho-rhino-phalangeal syndrome type II) who also had vertebral malformations. Chromosome analysis identified an interstitial del(8q): 46,XX,del(8)(pter leads to q22::q234 leads to qter) as a cause of this syndrome.

Ortokeratoloģijas ietekme uz ceturtās kārtas aberācijām.

Maģistra darbs ir uzrakstīts angļu valodā uz 36 lapaspusēm. Tas satur 7 attēlus, 7 formulas, 7 tabulas, 3 grafikus un 38 literatūras atsauces. Darba mērķis bija novērtēt radzenes sagitālā augstuma un leņķa, kā arī ceturtās kārtas aberāciju izmaiņas pēc ortokeratoloģijas lēcu lietošanas. Pētījumā tika analizēti radzenes topogrāfijas dati, iegūti no 30 acīm, trīs mēnešus lietojot ortokeratoloģijas lēcas. Rezultāti neuzrādīja būtiskas izmaiņas ceturtās kārtas aberāciju lielumos. Modificējot ortokeratoloģijas lēcu parametrus, ir iespējams saglabāt labu redzes asumu un skotopisko redzi pēc ortokeratoloģijas lēcu lietošanas.

Acs optiskās kvalitātes ietekme uz kontrastjutību un redzes asumu

Darbs ir uzrakstīts angļu valodā uz 50 lapaspusēm, satur 37 figūras, 1 tabula un 41 literatūras avotus. Pētījuma mērķis bija novērtēt redzes kvalitāti dalībniekiem ar dažādām izmaiņām acs optiskajās vidēs. Augsta kontrasta redzes asums, mezopiskais redzes asums un kontrastjutība ir labi parametri acs optiskās kvalitātes novērtēšanai. Mezopiskais redzes asums ir ar augstu jutību, lai atklātu dalībniekus ar nelielas pakāpes apduļķojumiem acs optiskajās vidēs (agrīna katarakta). Evaluation of a new nomogram for Ferrara ring segment implantation in keratoconus

AIM: To evaluate the short-term clinical outcomes of Ferrara rings in keratoconus using an optimized nomogram developed after several years of research and retrospective analysis of clinical data. METHODS: This prospective longitudinal non-comparative clinical trial evaluated 88 eyes of 88 patients (age 18-62y) with keratoconus diagnosis from two Spanish centers. Changes of the eye optics after iris constriction☆

Purpose: To evaluate the possible change in the optics of the human eye after iris constriction. Methods: Ocular aberrations were measured under natural viewing conditions in 26 eyes. The measured eyes fixated on a dim target while the contralateral eye was either occluded (so the measured eye had a large pupil) or highly illuminated (so the measured eye had a small pupil). The measured eyes fixated to a dim target placed 0.5 D beyond the subject’s far point. Opto-mechanical artificial eye with accommodative ability.

The purpose of this study was to describe the design and characterization of a new opto-mechanical artificial eye (OMAE) with accommodative ability. The OMAE design is based on a second-pass configuration where a small source of light is used at the artificial retina plane. A lens whose focal length can be changed electronically was used to add the accommodation capability. The changes in the OMAE's aberrations with the lens focal length, which effectively changes the accommodative state of the OMAE, were measured with a commercial aberrometer. A Do-It-Yourself Hyperspectral Imager Brought to Practice with Open-Source Python

Commercial hyperspectral imagers (HSIs) are expensive and thus unobtainable for large audiences or research groups with low funding. In this study, we used an existing do-it-yourself push-broom HSI design for which we provide software to correct for spectral smile aberration without using an optical laboratory. The software also corrects an aberration which we call tilt. The tilt is specific for the particular imager design used, but correcting it may be beneficial for other similar devices. Novērots, ka vairākos vēža tipos DNS sadalījums para-triploīdajā diapazonā (ap 69 hromosomām) ir bieži saistīts ar lielāku ļaundabīgumu, paaugstinātu rezistenci pret ķīmijterapiju un nelabvēlīgu prognozi pacientam. Šobrīd vadošā teorija uzskata, ka triploīdās vēža šūnas veidojas no tetraploīdajām nejaušo anomālo mitožu sērijas rezultātā.
