A cardiovascular educational intervention for primary care professionals in Spain: positive impact in a quasi-experimental study
2015
Background Routine general practice data collection can help identify patients at risk of cardiovascular disease. Aim To determine whether a training programme for primary care professionals improves the recording of cardiovascular disease risk factors in electronic health records. Design and setting A quasi-experimental study without random assignment of professionals. This was an educational intervention study, consisting of an online-classroom 1-year training programme, and carried out in the Valencian community in Spain. Method The prevalence rates of recording of cardiovascular factors (recorded every 6 months over a 4-year period) were compared between intervention and control group. …
Troponin I and cardiovascular risk prediction in the general population: the BiomarCaRE consortium
2016
AIMS: Our aims were to evaluate the distribution of troponin I concentrations in population cohorts across Europe, to characterize the association with cardiovascular outcomes, to determine the predictive value beyond the variables used in the ESC SCORE, to test a potentially clinically relevant cut-off value, and to evaluate the improved eligibility for statin therapy based on elevated troponin I concentrations retrospectively.METHODS AND RESULTS: Based on the Biomarkers for Cardiovascular Risk Assessment in Europe (BiomarCaRE) project, we analysed individual level data from 10 prospective population-based studies including 74 738 participants. We investigated the value of adding troponin …
Relative evaluation of regression tools for urban area electrical energy demand forecasting
2019
Abstract Load forecasting is the most fundamental application in Smart-Grid, which provides essential input to Demand Response, Topology Optimization and Abnormally Detection, facilitating the integration of intermittent clean energy sources. In this work, several regression tools are analyzed using larger datasets for urban area electrical load forecasting. The regression tools which are used are Random Forest Regressor, k-Nearest Neighbour Regressor and Linear Regressor. This work explores the use of regression tool for regional electric load forecasting by correlating lower distinctive categorical level (season, day of the week) and weather parameters. The regression analysis has been do…
ANN modelling of CO2 refrigerant cooling system COP in a smart warehouse
2020
Author's accepted manuscript Industrial cooling systems consume large quantities of energy with highly variable power demand. To reduce environmental impact and overall energy consumption, and to stabilize the power requirements, it is recommended to recover surplus heat, store energy, and integrate renewable energy production. To control these operations continuously in a complex energy system, an intelligent energy management system can be employed using operational data and machine learning. In this work, we have developed an artificial neural network based technique for modelling operational CO2 refrigerant based industrial cooling systems for embedding in an overall energy management s…
High pressure liquid chromatography resolution of racemic mixtures of chiral tricarbonyl arene chromium(0) and cyclopentadienyl-titanium(IV) complexes
1998
Abstract Enantiomers of chiral tricarbonyl arene chromium(0) and cyclopentadienyl-titanium(IV) complexes have been separated by high pressure liquid chromatography employing a Chiralcel OD (Daicel) column, eluting with hexane/2-propanol mixtures. The capacity factors ( k ) and selectivity factors ( α ) concerning the separation of these compounds have been determined. The resolution of tricarbonyl( η 6 -methyl o -acetylbenzoate)chromium ( IV ), was carried out on semipreparative scale: a comparison of the CD spectra of the enantiomers IVa and IVb with that reported in the literature for a similar complex allowed to establish the absolute configuration [( 1R )] for the most retained enantiom…

In the resurging field of RNA modifications, quantification is a bottleneck blocking many exciting avenues. With currently over 150 known nucleoside alterations, detection and quantification methods must encompass multiple modifications for a comprehensive profile. LC–MS/MS approaches offer a perspective for comprehensive parallel quantification of all the various modifications found in total RNA of a given organism. By feeding 13C-glucose as sole carbon source, we have generated a stable isotope-labeled internal standard (SIL-IS) for bacterial RNA, which facilitates relative comparison of all modifications. While conventional SIL-IS approaches require the chemical synthesis of single modif…
Geometry and “Metaphysics of Space” in Gauss and Riemann
1994
Gauss’s research on the principles of geometry and the axiom of parallels have been the subject of study for long time (e.g. Stackel 1933) which has shed light once and for all on his role in the early history of non-Euclidean geometry. It is therefore unnecessary to go through it all over again; what is more interesting here is to examine the development of Gauss’s ideas from another standpoint which emerges from the first testimony of his reflections on a subject that mathematicians had examined in vain right from antiquity: i.e. the possibility of proving the proposition that Euclid had taken as an axiom and formulated in the following terms: “That, if a straight line falling on two stra…
Evidence, and replication thereof, that molecular-genetic and environmental risks for psychosis impact through an affective pathway
2022
AbstractBackgroundThere is evidence that environmental and genetic risk factors for schizophrenia spectrum disorders are transdiagnostic and mediated in part through a generic pathway of affective dysregulation.MethodsWe analysed to what degree the impact of schizophrenia polygenic risk (PRS-SZ) and childhood adversity (CA) on psychosis outcomes was contingent on co-presence of affective dysregulation, defined as significant depressive symptoms, in (i) NEMESIS-2 (n = 6646), a representative general population sample, interviewed four times over nine years and (ii) EUGEI (n = 4068) a sample of patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder, the siblings of these patients and controls.ResultsT…
