Comparison of ultrasound and bone mineral density assessment of the calcaneus with different regions of interest in healthy early menopausal women.

This study investigated the effect of different sized regions of interest (ROIs) on quantitative ultrasound (QUS) variables of the calcaneus. The effect on QUS of using a fixed ROI as opposed to an ROI adjusted for foot length was also assessed. The impact of total hip arthroplasty on strain adaptive bone remodeling has been extensively analyzed by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. In this study, we present a prospective computed tomography-assisted study of periacetabular cortical and cancellous bone mineral density (in milligrams of calcium hydroxyapatite [CaHA] per milliliter, or mgCaHA/mL) changes 10 days and 1, 3, and 7 years after press-fit cup implantation for 38 hips in vivo. Contrast perception in digitized panoramic radiographs compared with their film-based origin

Abstract Objectives. We sought to compare the visual image quality of film-based and digitized panoramic radiographs through use of a hole-containing test wedge. Study Design. An aluminum wedge containing 100 cells, of which 90 were given shallow holes, was exposed in the film-based Orthophos CD panoramic unit. Two radiographs subjectively exhibiting optimum contrast were selected. Films were digitized with a charge-coupled device flatbed scanner at 300 dpi. Objective -- This study compared bioimpedance analysis (BIA) in the assessment of body composition with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in 18- to 88-year-old adults. Design and Methods -- Body composition of 882 adults was estimated by eight-polar BIA and DXA. In addition, estimates of lean mass, fat mass, and percentage of fat were investigated across a range of age and leisure time physical activity (LTPA) groups.
