Effects induced by 4.7 eV UV laser irradiation on pure silica core multimode optical fibers investigated by in situ optical absorption measurements

We investigated by in situ optical absorption measurements the effects induced by 4.7 eV UV laser irradiation on pure silica core optical fibers. Laser irradiation with 100 MWcm−2 laser intensity generates in the fiber E′ centers which partially decay after irradiation due to their reaction with diffusing H2. An absorption band peaked at 5.3 eV is observed to grow in the post-irradiation stage with a kinetics anti-correlated to the decay of the 5.8 eV band of the E′ centers. Optimal hydrogen storage in sodium substituted lithium fullerides

Through the substitution of Li with Na in Li6C60, we synthesized a series of mixed alkali cluster intercalated fullerides, NaxLi6−xC60. These compounds share lattices of Na6C60 and Li6C60 with a cubic parameter linearly dependent on x. H2 absorption and desorption were studied by means of charge/discharge kinetic measurements and coupled calorimetric–manometric evaluation. By varying the stoichiometry, we found the best compromise among the absorption rate, temperature and amount of hydrogen for x = 0.5 and 1. Selectivity in the direction of photoisomerization reactions in liquid-crystalline guest-host systems

E ⇄ Z photoisomerization reactions of stilbenes la-c were studied in liquid-crystalline (LC) phases and in the corresponding isotropic melts. Whereas viscosity has a moderate influence on the photostationary states, a strong effect caused by the regular incorporation of the stilbene molecules in the LC phases was observed. The direction of the isomerization can be reversed, up to the case of a one-way isomerization Z E for the tailored guest-host system 1b/BS. Such an LC-matrix effect is of typical highly ordered (smectic) phases with free volumina which are strictly limited by hydrophobic interactions; it could not be detected in a much more mobile nematic phase. A series of new N-arylated ferrocenepyrazole structures, carrying different donor or acceptor substituents in the para position of the aryl ring, has been synthesized by the Chan-Lam cross-coupling reaction. The reactivity of palladium acetate inside a poly(4-vinylpyridine-co-divinylbenzene) polymer is strongly influenced by the establishment of interaction between the Pd precursor and the pyridyl functional group in the polymer. X-ray Absorption Study of Gallium Arsenide at the Ga and As K-edges

We present X-ray absorption study of gallium arsenide at the Ga and As K-edges. The analysis of the X-ray absorption fine structure was done in the framework of the multiple-scattering theory. Both XANES and EXAFS regions are considered. The calculated signals are in very good agreement with experimental data. It is shown that for both edges multiple-scattering contributions are negligible for wavevector values greater than 3 Å-1, and single-scattering analysis can be used without significant loss of accuracy in that region.

Carbonyl metallo immuno assay: a new application for Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy

Abstract We describe here the development of a new, non-isotopic immunological assay termed CMIA (carbonyl metallo immunoassay) that uses metal carbonyl complexes as tracers and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) as the detection method. This assay is based on the particular spectral features of these complexes, which show very strong absorption bands in the 1800–2200 cm −1 spectral range where proteins and organic molecules do not absorb. In situ kinetic modelling of intestinal efflux in rats: functional characterization of segmental differences and correlation with in vitro results.

The objective was to devise and apply a novel modelling approach to combine segmental in situ rat perfusion data and in vitro cell culture data, in order to elucidate the contribution of efflux in drug absorption kinetics. The fluoroquinolone CNV97100 was used as a model P-gp substrate. In situ intestinal perfusion was performed in rat duodenum, jejunum, ileum and colon to measure the influence of P-gp expression on efflux. Inhibition studies of CNV97100 were performed in the presence of verapamil, quinidine, cyclosporin A and p-aminohippuric acid. In Situ Perfusion Model in Rat Colon for Drug Absorption Studies: Comparison with Small Intestine and Caco-2 Cell Model.

Our aim is to develop and to validate the in situ closed loop perfusion method in rat colon and to compare with small intestine and Caco-2 cell models. Correlations with human oral fraction absorbed (Fa) and human colon fraction absorbed (Fa_colon) were developed to check the applicability of the rat colon model for controlled release (CR) drug screening.
