Protein corona composition of poly(ethylene glycol)- and poly(phosphoester)-coated nanoparticles correlates strongly with the amino acid composition …

2017

Extensive molecular dynamics simulations reveal that the interactions between proteins and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) can be described in terms of the surface composition of the proteins. PEG molecules accumulate around non-polar residues while avoiding the polar ones. A solvent-accessible-surface-area model of protein adsorption accurately fits a large set of data on the composition of the protein corona of poly(ethylene glycol)- and poly(phosphoester)-coated nanoparticles recently obtained by label-free proteomic mass spectrometry.

Fast proton conduction in hydrogen bonded microheterogeneous systems: Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid/N-methyl formamide liquid mixtures

2009

Structural and dynamical properties of bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (HDEHP)/N-methyl formamide (NMF) liquid mixtures in the whole composition range have been investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-rays Diffraction (XRD), and AC complex impedance spectroscopy. Driven by hydrogen bond interactions among HDEHP PO(4)H group and NMF CO and NH groups, and also by steric effects among the HDEHP alkyl chains, the system microstructure is mainly characterized by the coexistence of spatially separated hydrophilic and hydrophobic nanodomains showing local organization and short-range order. The evolution of this structural feature with system composition has been highli…

α,β-Dehydroamino acids in naturally occurring peptides

2014

α,β-Dehydroamino acids are naturally occurring non-coded amino acids, found primarily in peptides. The review focuses on the type of α,β-dehydroamino acids, the structure of dehydropeptides, the source of their origin and bioactivity. Dehydropeptides are isolated primarily from bacteria and less often from fungi, marine invertebrates or even higher plants. They reveal mainly antibiotic, antifungal, antitumour, and phytotoxic activity. More than 60 different structures were classified, which often cover broad families of peptides. 37 different structural units containing the α,β-dehydroamino acid residues were shown including various side chains, Z and E isomers, and main modifications: meth…

Monoclonal anti-fosB antibody specific for predetermined, nonstructural region of the fosB protein.

1997

Comparison of the primary structures and theoretical prediction of the potential antigenic determinant of the deduced Fos proteins reveals the presence of a nonstructural and hydrophilic region juxtaposed to the leucine zipper and nonconserved among the Fos protein family. To develop monoclonal anti-peptide antibodies capable of distinguishing all Fos-proteins, synthetic peptides specific for the mentioned predicted region were synthesized manually by the "tea-bag" method. Immunization of Balb/c mice with fosB-related synthetic peptide BSA gave rise to mouse hybridoma cell line K21 (IgG1, kappa) secreting highly specific antibodies against corresponding human fosB protein. Fine mapping of t…

Protective Effects of L- and D-Carnosine on R-Crystallin Amyloid Fibril Formation: Implications for Cataract Disease

2009

Mildly denaturing conditions induce bovine ?-crystallin, the major structural lens protein, to self-assemble into fibrillar structures in vitro. The natural dipeptide L-carnosine has been shown to have potential protective and therapeutic significance in many diseases. Carnosine derivatives have been proposed as potent agents for ophthalmic therapies of senile cataracts and diabetic ocular complications. Here we report the inhibitory effect induced by the peptide (L- and D-enantiomeric form) on ?-crystallin fibrillation and the almost complete restoration of the chaperone activity lost after denaturant and/or heat stress. Scanning force microscopy (SFM), thioflavin T, and a turbidimetry ass…

Three Perspectives on Organizational Justice within Care Centers for People with Intellectual Disability: A Study about the Partnership between Profe…

2022

Auxin application and cutting length affect rooting in Cuphea hyssopifolia stem cuttings

2017

The effect of cutting length and indole-3-buyric acid (IBA) application on adventitious root formation stem cuttings was studied in Cuphea hyssopifolia. Softwood terminal cuttings of a clone grown in Sicily were trimmed to three lengths (2, 4 or 6 cm) and inserted to a 1-cm depth in bottom heated plastic trays containing a humidified peat-vermiculite mixture 1:2 (v/v). To verify the cutting response to different auxin concentrations, cuttings were dipped to a 1.0 cm depth in a 500ppm or 1000 ppm IBA solutions for 10 seconds. Cutting percent survival was 100%. Regardless of cutting length, the highest rooting percentage was obtained with IBA at 1000 ppm (avg. 86.7%), whereas rooting signific…

Electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide: effect of the cell and of the operating parameters on the performances of the process.

2017

Recycling technologies of CO2 allow to introduce renewable energy in the chemical and energy chain, storing a renewable energy in the chemical form. In this context, electrochemical conversion of CO2 is considered one of the more interesting approaches, using excess electric energy from intermittent renewable sources. (1) Furthermore, products can be selectively controlled by changing the operating conditions of electrolysis. In particular, in the last years, an increasing attention has been devoted to the electrochemical conversion of CO2 to formic acid or formate in water. (2,3,4) The main hurdle of the reduction of CO2 from water solution is the low CO2 solubility in water. In this work,…

Response of seagrasses and marine biofilms to natural acidification at CO2 vents
