PO-0322 The Effective Dose Of Sodium Bicarbonate In Severe Acute Dehydration And Metabolic Acidosis Due To Acute Diarrhoea In Children

2014

Background Still exist controversies about sodium bicarbonate (SB) effectiveness in metabolic acidosis (MA). The SB dose finally remain at discretion of physician. Aims Proving SB efficiency in severe acute dehydration (SAD) with MA secondary to acute diarrhoea (AD) in children. Methods Retrospective study conducted between May–September 2013, in 0–5 years old patients hospitalised for AD with SAD and MA. We chose the propitious age group and season for acute gastrointestinal pathology. We considered SAD loss >10% of body weight and severe MA pH Results In A Group, at admission, 57,14% presented pH 15; at 4 H, all presented alkalosis. In B Group, at admission, 50% presented severe MA; at 1 …

Higher cardiometabolic risk in idiopathic versus autoimmune type 1 diabetes: A retrospective analysis

2018

Abstract Background Idiopathic type 1 diabetes mellitus (IDM) is characterized by an onset with insulinopenia and ketoacidosis with negative β-cell autoimmunity markers and lack of association with HLA. The aim of the study is to compare the clinical and metabolic parameters, the macro and microvascular complications, the adipose tissue dysfunction and the insulin secretion and sensitivity indexes in patients with IDM and autoimmune type 1 diabetes mellitus (ADM) at clinical onset. Methods Thirty patients with IDM and 30 with ADM, matched for age and gender, were retrospectively analyzed. BMI, waist circumference, lipids, glycemia, HbA1c, insulin requirement, glutamic oxaloacetic and glutam…

Swelling, Intracellular Acidosis, and Damage of Glial Cells

1996

Cerebral ischemia and severe head injury among others are associated with a limited availability of oxygen, leading to cell catabolism as well as anaerobic glycolysis. Resulting metabolites, such as arachidonic- and lactic acid, can be expected to leak into perifocal brain areas, contributing there to cytotoxic swelling and damage of neurons and glia. Since elucidation of mechanisms underlying cell swelling and damage in the brain is difficult in vivo, respective investigations were carried out in vitro using suspended glial cells. Thereby, effects of arachidonic acid (AA) and of lactacidosis on glial cell volume, intracellular pH (pHi), and cell damage were analyzed utilizing flow cytometr…
