Preferential solvation of poly(methyl methacrylate) and a bisphenol A diglycidyl ether by size-exclusion chromatography

The preferential adsorption coefficient, lambda, of poly(methyl methacrylate), PMMA, in solutions formed by an epoxy resin in tetrahydrofuran (THF), was studied by size-exclusion chromatography (SEC). Only PMMA of lowest molar mass was preferentially solvated by epoxy but at low concentrations of epoxy in the mixture. At higher epoxy content PMMA was preferentially solvated by THF. A simultaneous and competitive solvation between the specific interactions PMMA-epoxy and the self association of epoxy at high concentrations would be the responsible of this inversion point. Polymer-supported bilayer lipid membranes offer great opportunities for the investigation of functional membrane proteins. Here we present a new approach in this direction by introducing a thin hydrogel layer as a soft ‘cushion’ on indium–tin oxide (ITO), providing a smooth, functional surface to form the protein-tethered BLM (ptBLM). Using the Molecular Electron Density Theory (MEDT), a set of uncatalyzed and X2 molecule-catalyzed (X2 = F2, Cl2, Br2, or I2) aza Michael addition reactions (aza-MARs) between pyrrolidine (PYR) and methyl acrylate (MA) have been studied in the gas phase and in dichloromethane (DCM) medium from the kinetics and molecular mechanism aspects. Analysis of the conceptual DFT reactivity indices indicates that the coordination of the X2 molecules to the oxygen of the MA's carbonyl group increases both the softness and the electrophilic character of MA, thus explaining the catalytic role of the X2 molecules. Abstract The compatibility of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) with poly(styrene‐co‐vinyl phenol) (PS‐VPh) with two different contents of vinyl phenol, 5.8 and 7.2%, in dilute tetrahydrofuran solutions has been investigated by size exclusion chromatography and fluorescence spectroscopy at 25°C. The chromatographic technique permits the evaluation of the preferential solvation at different PMMA/PS‐VPh ratios. Changes in the fluorescence properties of PS‐VPh, caused by its association with PMMA, were used to obtain the fraction of copolymer bound to PMMA at diverse PMMA compositions. Oligothiophene monomers with a fixed length varying from 3 to 5 thiophene rings were prepared by Stille coupling. They were functionalised with one or two methacrylate groups to allow polymerization and cross-linking. These monomers can be patterned with the help of soft silicon stamps (e.g., with the micro-injection moulding in capillaries process) on substrates like glass or flexible polymer foils. If a photoinitiator has been added, they can then be hardened by exposure to UV-light through the transparent stamp. Afterwards the stamp can be removed. Prosthetically‐Driven Full‐Mouth Implant‐Supported Prostheses Using Guided Surgical Implant Planning with Composite Resin Markers: A Case Report

This report describes a prosthetically-driven implant planning method, guided by the alignment procedures between the cone beam computed tomography, intraoral digital scans, and digitized maxillary and mandibular interim complete dentures using intraoral composite resin markers as a common reference. The markers were attached to the keratinized oral mucosa of the edentulous ridges using cyanoacrylate and kept in place during the digitizing procedures. The technique provides a simpler and more economical alternative to conventional prosthetically-driven static implant planning methods.
Evolution of the “knitting pattern” morphology in ABC triblock copolymers

A new morphology of ternary ABC triblock copolymers is presented which results from the asymmetric interaction between a centre block (poly(ethylene-co-butene)) to different end blocks (polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate)). This morphology with the appearance of a “knitting pattern” can be described as an intermediate of a morphology of A, B and C lamellae and a morphology of A and C lamellae with B cylinders at the A/C interface.
