Intelligent Sampling for Vegetation Nitrogen Mapping Based on Hybrid Machine Learning Algorithms
2021
Upcoming satellite imaging spectroscopy missions will deliver spatiotemporal explicit data streams to be exploited for mapping vegetation properties, such as nitrogen (N) content. Within retrieval workflows for real-time mapping over agricultural regions, such crop-specific information products need to be derived precisely and rapidly. To allow fast processing, intelligent sampling schemes for training databases should be incorporated to establish efficient machine learning (ML) models. In this study, we implemented active learning (AL) heuristics using kernel ridge regression (KRR) to minimize and optimize a training database for variational heteroscedastic Gaussian processes regression (V…
Tīmekļa projekti vidusskolēnu caurviju prasmju attīstībai
2018
Active Methods Concerning Skills Formation of the Sensory and Textural Analysis of Cheese
2017
The fundamental objective of this research is establishing favorable active methods applied to students in laboratory work, taking into account the peculiarities of students and the theme specificity so that they form certain practical skills to sensory and textural analysis of cheese. For the research purposes, students were grouped from one of the specializations in two heterogeneous groups. Taking into account their potential for learning, a different method of teaching and learning was applied separately for both groups of students. These methods are associated with other active methods for the skills training of sensory analysis of cheese and to stimulate the student’s creativity. Fin…
Crowdfunding Education: Objectives, Content, Pedagogy, and Assessment
2020
AbstractDespite its rapid growth, little attention has been given to education and training in crowdfunding. Such training is important for ensuring the healthy and ethical development of the crowdfunding industry by educating the public about the challenges and risks as well as the merits and benefits of crowdfunding. While many may have heard the term ‘crowdfunding’, it often remains poorly understood by the larger public. Hence, this chapter argues the need for crowdfunding dedicated education programmes, while presenting a concrete course programme based on the Crowdfunding Lab developed at the University of Agder in Norway. The Crowdfunding Lab is to our knowledge one of the first univ…
A SELECTION OF METHODS AND TECHNIQUES PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS CAN APPLY TO THEIR OWN LIFELONG LEARNING
2018
A selection of methods and techniques professional teachers can apply to their own lifelong learning.Education is the key to converting knowledge and experience into practical actions, their analysis and application. It plays a key role in the synthesis of new knowledge into research and innovation. Such thoughts on education were expressed in the resolution of the sixth World Education Congress in 2011. Today, when world education forums are widely discussing how schools can better organise the learning process, when ambitious long-term reforms are being implemented in the Latvian education system—the transition to competency-based educational content and teaching methods—it is essential t…
Organizational Performance Dynamics : a preliminary model
2023
The main objective of this model (an Interactive Learning Environment) is to help the reader understand how employees' motivational dynamics influence organizational performance. The model will allow you, through an iterative learning process, to understand: - the feedback structure of dynamic organizational performance system - the main motivational variables that influence the organizational performance - the organizational levers able to affect the employees' motivational dynamics The model will allow the reader to figure out the complex relationship between employee motivation and organizational performance through an "experimental" approach, using the simulation features provided by th…
Time and the Design of Web-Based Learning Environments
2005
Introduction Design can be seen as a form of creation, which involves complexity and synthesis (Goel & Pirolli, 1992; Schon, 1987). In a broad sense, anyone who designs is a designer. This means that unlike analysts or critics, designers put elements together and bring new creations into being. In so doing they deal with many variables and constraints, some initially known and some discovered through the design process (Etelapelto, 1998). According to Burgoon, Buller, and Woodall (1996), it is typically human to affect and change one's environment. However humans are affected by their physical surroundings as well. Schon (1987) perceives all human constructive and creative activity as desig…
Relative Effectiveness of Direct Instruction vs. Active Learning in the Teaching of Science
2013
International audience; This study compares two controversial pedagogy [5], [6], [8], [11]: direct instruction and active learning. As “performance” still used by teacher and institution as assessment indicator we have went measuring it in this research. Then, we question on effectiveness of two learning methods on acquisition of scientific knowledge. Direct instruction and active learning are there same impact in teaching of sciences? Must we choose between these two methods or use both? Scientific knowledge is it single assessment indicator? Results of this work would show that direct instruction mobilizes especially memory strategy even though active learning mobilizes more conceptual str…
AAA: Aulas de aprendizaje activo
2021
To promote student learning, some universities are creating active learning spaces that replace traditional master class classrooms. In Universitat Jaume I de Castelló, two classrooms (called TEAM) have been …
The BioS4You European project: An innovative way to effectively engage Z-generation students in STEM disciplines
2021
In this contribution, we present the BioS4You project and analyse the results obtained in the first 18 months of its activity. The “Bio-Inspired STEM topics for engaging young generations” (BioS4You) Erasmus+ KA2 Innovation project aims to bridge the gap between STEM national curricula (which include Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and the needs of Z-generation students, uninterested to basic themes, but enthusiastic in issues related to environmental, social, and health concerns. The BioS4You project engages young learners in STEM subjects, starting with current issues of interest for them, as the social and environmental impact of new technologies, connecting STEM conce…
