As less is known about the potential renal impairment after long distance running, we assessed creatinine and neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin (NGAL) in serum (sNGAL) and urine (uNGAL) before and after an ultramarathon.The study population consisted of 16 trained male athletes who ran a 60 km ultramarathon. Background: Common polymorphisms of genes controlling inflammation-modulating cytokines and acute-phase proteins which play important roles in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer''s disease (AD) have been shown to be associated with AD. Aims: The immunological and immunogenetic markers potentially useful for the AD risk evaluation and diagnosis are briefly reviewed. Conclusion: The state-of-the-art of immunological and immunogenetic markers of AD indicates that new tools and strategies are necessary to identify gene products useful as diagnostic tools.

Our aim was to investigate u-NGAL, u-KIM1 and p-FGF23 and prediction of decline in kidney function in type 2 diabetic patients with proteinuria.We performed a follow-up study, follow-up median (range) 3.5 (1-5) years. Soluble serum beta 2-microglobulin has been thought to result from membrane shedding by activated T-lymphocytes. This hypothesis could explain the increase of beta 2-microglobulin serum levels during virally induced mononucleosis, but not elevated levels as observed in other virally induced and in malignant diseases. In this paper we demonstrate that beta 2-microglobulin is a true secretory protein, and that its synthesis in hepatocytes is modulated by IFNs but not by IL-1. BACKGROUND: Congestive heart failure (CHF) is associated with decreased exercise tolerance, alterations in body fluid balance and activation of neurohumoral and inflammatory pathways. Physical training, despite the contraindications of the past, is recommended for its beneficial effects on exercise capacity and quality of life.
