The Role of Leadership in Complex Strategic Networks: Enabling Effect Versus Emergence

In today's knowledge-based economy, the sources of competitive advantage lie more and more in webs of interactions among a variety of actors (such as firms, universities, research organizations, government institutions and so on), that over time originate the emergence of strategic networks. The paper aims to shed light on the determinants of network interaction and the ensuing processes of knowledge and resource transfer and circulation, on which the networkbased sources of competitive advantage are rooted. Mūsdienās aktuāla tēma augstākajā izglītībā ir studentu piesaistīšana un noturēšana studijām, jo kā liecina pētījumi viena trešā daļa no augstākās izglītības studentiem nepabeidz bakalaura līmeņa studijas. Pamatā studentu izstāšanos no studijām apskata un analizē no psiholoģijas viedokļa, taču pēdējo 20 gadu laikā ir radusies interese par citiem faktoriem, kas noved pie studentu izstāšanās no augstskolas, tāpēc pētot vēl dziļāk šo problēmu, tiek meklētas savstarpējās saiknes starp dažādiem faktoriem, tai skaitā, veģetatīviem parametriem (sirdsdarbības frekvence un ādas elektrodermālā aktivitāte), lai pēc iespējas precīzāk noskaidrotu iemeslus un turpmāk mazinātu studentu iztāšanos no studij…

Abstract Purpose Long-term sports training, such as skill and endurance training, leads to specific neuroplasticity. However, it remains unclear if muscle stretch-induced proprioceptive feedback influences corticospinal facilitation/inhibition differently between skill- and endurance-trained athletes. This study investigated modulation of corticospinal excitability following rapid ankle dorsiflexion between well-trained skill and endurance athletes. Background: Periodical cicadas (Magicicada spp.) have a life cycle that ends with the entire underground nymph population exhibiting a synchronized mass emergence to mate above ground. Previous studies have hypothesized that the periodical cicadas evolved from non-periodical cicadas by switching from a life-cycle length determined by body size to one determined by age. Questions: When can a mutation coding for fixed life-cycle length invade a resident population in which life-cycle length is variable? What determines the length of the fixed cycle? This work is part of a demanding project, called “Progetto Serpotta”, performed since 2000 in cooperation with Soprintendenza Beni Culturali of Palermo. Aim of the project is the restoration of the unique stucco's artworks moulded by Giacomo Serpotta and his co-workers end of 17th -beginning of 18th century. This paper is focused on the problem of salt efflorescences, that are widely present in all of the churches and oratories restored in the framework of “Progetto Serpotta”. Effects of hormonal contraceptives on physical performance and body composition

The purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of hormonal contraceptive use on neuromuscular, cardiorespiratory and body composition adaptations following combined strength and endurance training period. Methods. Nineteen recreationally active women; 11 who had at least one year of hormonal contraceptive use (age 294 yr; BMI 212 kg/m2; VO2max 444 ml/kg/min) and 8 who had never used hormonal contraceptives (age 315 yr; BMI 222 kg/m2; VO2max 414 ml/kg/min) participated in the present study of combined strength and endurance training for 10 weeks. This thesis investigated 1) acute neuromuscular and hormonal responses to combined strength and endurance loadings with different orders and their long-term adaptations (women), 2) adaptations in neuromuscular, hormonal, cardiorespiratory and health variables following 24 weeks of volume-equated protocols of combined training (men and women). Subjects were assigned to one of three groups: strength and endurance training on different days (DD: men n=21, women n=18), training in the same-session with either endurance before strength (ES: men n=16, women n=15) or vice versa (SE: men n=18, women n=14).
