Multifaceted Palladium Catalysts Towards the Tandem Diboration-Arylation Reactions of Alkenes
2008
Novel Pd(2) (6+) compounds have been synthesized in high yield. These compounds and their Pd(2) (4+) counterparts as synthetic precursors mediate the diboration of vinylarenes and aliphatic 1-alkenes, and under mild and basic reaction conditions they produce a variety of 1,2-diboronate esters with excellent conversions and chemoselectivities. The presence of bis(catecholato)diboron (B(2)cat(2)) favours the reduction of Pd(III) to Pd(II), while the catalytic precursor of Pd(II) is transformed into Pd(0)-nanoparticles. An "in situ" catalytic tandem reaction has been designed to transform the diboronate intermediates into the monoarylated product, which after oxidative workup, provides the car…
Synthesis and application of β-substituted Pauson-Khand adducts: trifluoromethyl as a removable steering group.
2013
The reaction between alkynes (I) and norbornadiene (II) affords the β-substituted Pauson—Khand adducts (III) as single regioisomers and the trifluoromethyl steering group can be easily removed in the presence of DBU and water.
Theoretical Study of the Hydroxyl Radical Addition to Uracil and Photochemistry of the Formed U6OH• Adduct
2014
Hydroxyl radical ((•)OH) is produced in biological systems by external or endogenous agents. It can damage DNA/RNA by attacking pyrimidine nucleobases through the addition to the C5═C6 double bond. The adduct resulting from the attachment at the C5 position prevails in the experimental measurements, although the reasons for this preference remain unclear. The first aim of this work is therefore to shed light on the comprehension of this important process. Thus, the thermal (•)OH addition to the C5═C6 double bond of uracil has been studied theoretically by using DFT, MP2, and the multiconfigurational CASPT2//CASSCF methodologies. The in-vacuo results obtained with the latter protocol plus th…
Communication: Electronic UV-Vis transient spectra of the ·OH reaction products of uracil, thymine, cytosine, and 5,6-dihydrouracil by using the comp…
2013
Addition of ∙OH radicals to pyrimidine nucleobases is a common reaction in DNA/RNA damage by reactive oxygen species. Among several experimental techniques, transient absorption spectroscopy has been during the last decades used to characterize such compounds. Discrepancies have however appeared in the assignment of the adduct or adducts responsible for the reported transient absorption UV-Vis spectra. In order to get an accurate assignment of the transient spectra and a unified description of the absorption properties of the ∙OH reaction products of pyrimidines, a systematic complete active space self-consistent field second-order perturbation (CASPT2//CASSCF) theory study has been carried…
A Bis(diazadiene) Adduct of MoCl 2 : Mononuclear, Octahedral, Undistorted and Diamagnetic
2004
The complex [MoCl2(iPr2dad)2] (iPr2dad = iPrN=CH−CH=N−iPr) is obtained in one step by reduction of [MoCl3(THF)3] in the presence of iPr2dad. The X-ray structure reveals a relatively undistorted octahedral coordination geometry with a relative cis configuration and points to a more appropriate description of the ligands as enediamides. The NMR investigation is in agreement with the same cis structure in solution and underlines the diamagnetism of the compound, at odds with previously reported very similar complexes. A bulk magnetic susceptibility measurement further confirms the compound’s diamagnetism. No equilibrium with a dinuclear, metal-metal bonded species is apparent from the solution…
Reactivity of Neutral Mo(S2C6H4)3 in Aqueous Media: an Alternative Functional Model of Sulfite Oxidase.
2009
The kinetics of the reaction of neutral [Mo(S2C6H4)3] with hydrogen sulfite to produce the anionic Mo(V) complex, [Mo(S2C6H4)3]-, and sulfate have been investigated. It has been shown that [Mo(S2C6H4)3] acts as the electron-proton sink in the oxygenation reaction of HSO3(-) by water. Reaction rates, monitored by UV/vis stopped-flow spectrometry, were studied in THF/water media as a function of the concentration of HSO3(-) and molybdenum complex, pH, ionic strength, and temperature. The reaction exhibits pH-dependent HSO3(-) saturation kinetics, and it is first-order in complex concentration. The kinetic data and MS-ESI spectra are consistent with the formation of [Mo O(S2C6H4)2(S2C6H5)]- (1…
Reversible Dioxygen Binding and Phenol Oxygenation in a Tyrosinase Model System
2000
The complex [Cu2(L-66)]2+ (L-66 = a,a'-bis¿bis[2-(1'-methyl-2'-benzimidazolyl)ethyl]amino¿-m-xylene) undergoes fully reversible oxygenation at low temperature in acetone. The optical [lambda(max) = 362 (epsilon 15000), 455 (epsilon 2000), and 550 nm (epsilon 900M(-1)cm(-1))] and resonance Raman features (760 cm(-1), shifted to 719cm(-1)(-1) with 18O2) of the dioxygen adduct [Cu2(L-66)(O2)]2+ indicate that it is a mu-eta2:eta2-peroxodicopper(II) complex. The kinetics of dioxygen binding, studied at - 78 degrees C, gave the rate constant k1 = 1.1M(-1) 5(-1) for adduct formation, and k(-1) =7.8 x 10(-5)s(-1), for dioxygen release from the Cu2O2 complex. From these values, the O2 binding consta…
Stereoselective Synthesis and Cytoselective Toxicity of Monoterpene-Fused 2-Imino-1,3-thiazines
2014
Starting from pinane-, apopinane- and carane-based 1,3-amino alcohols obtained from monoterpene-based β-amino acids, a library of monoterpene-fused 2-imino-1,3-thiazines as main products and 2-thioxo-1,3-oxazines as side-products were prepared via two- or three-step syntheses. When thiourea adducts prepared from 1,3-amino alcohols and aryl isothiocyanates were reacted with CDI under mild conditions, O-imidazolylcarbonyl intermediates were isolated which could be transformed to the desired 1,3-thiazines under microwave conditions. 1,3-Thiazines and 2-thioxo-1,3-oxazine side-products could also be prepared in one-step reactions through the application of CDI and microwave irradiation. The rin…
Reactions of benzothiete with phosphorus nucleophiles - a novel type of arbuzov rearrangement
1989
The reaction of trialkylphosphites or related P-nucleophiles with benzothiete (1) leads to zwitter ionic species, which show an Arbuzov - like rearrangement to the products 4 and 7, respectively. New heterocyclic ring systems are generated in the case of cyclic esters. The normal SN2 reaction leads to the 1:2 adducts 9, whereas in an SN1 process the 1:1 adduct 13 is formed.
