Abstract Aims Cardiogenic shock (CS) is a life-threatening condition burdened by mortality in up to 50% of cases. Few recommendations exist with intermediate–low level of evidence on CS management and no data on adherence across centres exist. We performed a survey to frame CS management at multinational level. Characterization of a novel population of low-density granulocytes associated with disease severity in HIV-1 infection

The mechanisms resulting in progressive immune dysfunction during the chronic phase of HIV infection are not fully understood. We have previously shown that arginase, an enzyme with potent immunosuppressive properties, is increased in HIV seropositive (HIV+) patients with low CD4(+) T cell counts. Here we show that the cells expressing arginase in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of HIV+ patients are low-density granulocytes (LDGs) and that whereas these cells have a similar morphology to normal-density granulocyte, they are phenotypically different. Importantly, our results reveal that increased frequencies of LDGs correlate with disease severity in HIV+ patients.

In vitro phagocytosis by guinea pig peritoneal macrophages of immune complexes (EA) was shown to be dependent on IgG antibody in a dose-dependent fashion. C3b enhanced phagocytosis of EA at limited IgG antibody concentrations only. When IgM antibody was used for sensitization of sheep red blood cells (SRBC), phagocytosis and rosette formation did not occur in the absence of bound C3. The polyanion, dextran sulfate 500 (DS), was shown to depress both rosette formation and phagocytosis of EAIgG, C1423 and EAIgMC1423, as well as immune adherence of human group 0 erythrocytes and hemolytic activity of C3. This effect of DS was seen only when it was actually present in the incubation medium.

There are no studies which focus on the mechanical characteristics of kinesiology tape, its mechanical properties, nor its adherence following the ISO international standard test methods for tape elongation.
