A Prospective Observational Study on the Structuring Process and Implementation of a Large Regional, Inter-hospital, Virtual Multidisciplinary Tumor …

2022

Background/Aim: At present, multidisciplinary tumor boards (MDTB) are considered best practice in oncology. However, web-based virtualization of MDTB may increase participation in meetings, the number of cases discussed, and adherence to guidelines, deliver better treatment, and eventually improve outcomes for patients with prostate cancer. Patients and Methods: This is an observational study focused on exploring the structuring process and implementing a multi-institutional virtual MDTB in Sicily, Italy. Other endpoints included the analysis of cooperation between participants, adherence to guidelines, patient outcomes, and patient satisfaction. Results: Overall, 126 patients were referred…

GH successful treatment in a female with a de novo 46,XX,add(X)(p36),t(X;Y)(p36.3;p11.2), growth impairment and SHOX-haploinsufficiency

2019

Abstract Children with chromosome translocations, concerning X chromosome, have a genetic pattern different from Turner syndrome; however, when a translocation involves the of part of X chromosome including short stature homeobox-containing Sex-determining Region Y gene, growth may be severely compromised. We describe the clinical case of a 2.2-year-old-female, arrived at our paediatric unit for a decrease of height velocity. The karyotype was 46,XX,add(X)(p36.3). Array comparative genomic hybridization showed a fragment of Y chromosome, extended from 8.803.981 (Yp11.2) to 28.767.604 (Yq11.23). The final karyotype was 46,XX,add(X)(p36),t(X;Y)(p36.3;p11.2). P03-123 - Validation of the Spanish Version of the Subjective Well-Being Under Neuroleptic Scale (SWN) in Patients with Schizophrenia

2010

ObjectiveTo assess the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the SWN scale, an instrument which evaluates the subjective experience of psychotic patients towards neuroleptic treatment.MethodsA validation study (feasibility, reliability, and validity) was conducted in 20 psychiatric centers. Patients were evaluated with the PANSS, the CGI severity scale and the SWN-20. A re-test was conducted one week after baseline. The study included clinically stabilized outpatients diagnosed with schizophrenia (DSM-IV-TR criteria) who were on treatment as usual. The SWN used in this study consists of 20 questions answered on a 6-point Likert scale. The total score ranges from 20 to 120 points…

The Role of Attitudes Toward Medication and Treatment Adherence in the Clinical Response to LAIs: Findings From the STAR Network Depot Study

2021

Background: Long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotics are efficacious in managing psychotic symptoms in people affected by severe mental disorders, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The present study aimed to investigate whether attitude toward treatment and treatment adherence represent predictors of symptoms changes over time. Methods: The STAR Network “Depot Study” was a naturalistic, multicenter, observational, prospective study that enrolled people initiating a LAI without restrictions on diagnosis, clinical severity or setting. Participants from 32 Italian centers were assessed at three time points: baseline, 6-month, and 12-month follow-up.

Adherence to endocrine therapy in women with breast cancer: development and preliminary validation of the A-BET questionnaire

2022

Purpose. To develop an Italian tool that measures the therapy adherence of women with breast cancer undergoing treatment with oral endocrine therapy. Methods A two-phase study was conducted, which followed the guidelines of the European Statistical System for the development and validation of a questionnaire. In the first phase, the questionnaire was developed; in the second phase, a preliminary validation was carried out on patients with breast cancer undergoing treatment with oral hormonal therapies. Results In its final version, the questionnaire presents 6 main items which aim to investigate the level of adherence, the degree of awareness of the nature of the drug taken and the reasons …

Utilización de tecnologías móviles en pacientes con psicosis: una revisión sistemática.

2017

[EN] There is a growing interest in mobile Health interventions (m-Health) in patients with psychosis. The aim of this study is to conduct a systematic review in order to analysethe current state of research in this area. The search of articles was carried out following the PRISMA criteria, focusing on those studies that used mobile technologies in patients with psychosis during the period from 1990 to 2016. A total of 20 articles were selected from the 431 studies found. Three types of studies are distinguished: 1) Analysis of quality and usability, 2) Improving treatment adherence and reducing hospital admissions, and 3) Analysisof patient symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: m-Health interventions are…

A Multicentre, Randomised, Controlled Trial of a Combined Clinical Treatment for First-Episode Psychosis

2021

Introduction: There is evidence that early intervention contributes to improving the prognosis and course of first-episode psychosis (FEP). However, further randomised treatment clinical trials are needed. Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of a combined clinical treatment involving Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as an adjunctive to treatment-as-usual (TAU) (CBT+TAU) versus TAU alone for FEP. Patients and methods: In this multicentre, single-blind, randomised controlled trial, 177 participants were randomly allocated to either CBT+TAU or TAU. The primary outcome was post-treatment patient functioning. Results: The CBT+TAU group showed a greater improvement in…

Disclosure of duplicative studies: damned if you don't

2012

Duplicative publication requires duplicative editorializing. There are many forms of lesser redundancy such as unacknowledged secondary analyses of randomized clinical trials, fragmentation of studies with concurrent submission to various journals, and serial updating of observational studies. These practices result in publication bias. We have revised our instructions to authors to include disclosure of similar articles that are published, in press, or submitted to other journals to the editors upon submission.

Revising old principles of inhaled treatment in new fixed combinations for asthma.

2015

The major influencing factors on persistent asthma control are the selected treatment(s), the drug delivery route and patient's adherence to therapy, together with the influence of lifestyle (i.e. sedentary habit), comorbid conditions and specific asthma phenotypes. Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) in combination with a long-acting β2-agonist (LABA) are the gold standard for management of persistent asthma, with maximal local targeting and minimal systemic side effects. Several innovative inhaler devices have been developed for effective local drug administration and good patient compliance to therapy. Recently, a new ICS/LABA fixed combination, formulated with fluticasone propionate (FP) and …
