Repair bond strength of bulk fill composites after different adhesion protocols

2019

Background Repairs in composite resin restorations are common procedures in clinical practice. Many surface treatment options have been proposed to improve the adhesion between the old and new composite. The objective of this study was to evaluate the microtensile bond strength of repairs performed on aged bulk fill and conventional composites after different adhesion protocols. Material and methods First, 84 specimens (8x8x4 mm3) of a microhybrid composite and a high-viscosity bulk fill composite were prepared and aged. Afterward, they received a mechanical surface treatment by means of abrasion with a diamond bur, followed by division into six groups according to the adhesion protocol emp…

Influence of different photoinitiators on the resistance of union in bovine dentin: Experimental and microscopic study

2021

Background To evaluate in vitro the influence of photoinitiators on the microtensile strength of adhesive systems and composite resins in bovine dentin. Material and Methods Forty dentin obtained from bovine teeth were randomly distributed in four groups (n = 10) according to the different adhesive systems and composite resins used: G1 - AAPS + VAPS (Ambar APS + Vittra APS); G2- AAPS + O (Ambar APS + Opallis); G3 - A + VAPS (Ambar + Vittra APS) and G4 - A + O (Ambar + Opallis). After restoration with the composite, the samples were sectioned to obtain toothpicks that were subjected to the microtensile and nanofiltration test (1.0 mm/min). Results The Kruskal-Wallis test did not show signifi…

Bond strength of a new Kevlar fiber-reinforced composite post with semi-interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) matrix

2019

Background This study aimed to evaluate the bond strength and the penetration depth of two adhesive systems to a new experimental semi-IPN fiber post versus a commercial post. Material and Methods Experimental Kevlar fiber (KF) and control everStick®POST (ES) posts (n=20/ group) with a diameter of 1.5 mm were used, 10 posts coated with StickResin (SR) and the other 10 posts coated with Scotch bond multipurpose (SBMP) adhesives. Composite resin buildup was performed over each post, using a cylindrical plastic mold (10 mm × 6 mm). Four discs of 2 mm thickness were prepared from each post/composite buildup and underwent pushout bond strength test at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min accompanied …

Effect of different adhesive strategies on the microtensile bond strength of dentin to indirect resin-based composite.

2020

Background To evaluate the microtensile bond strength of indirect resin composite bonded to dentin using five different adhesives strategies. Material and Methods Forty specimens (Solidex) were produced and randomly into five groups with different adhesives strategies: (G1)- Single Bond Universal + etch + silane + RelyX Ultimate, (G2)- Single Bond Universal + silane + RelyX Ultimate, (G3)- Single Bond Universal + etch + RelyX Ultimate, (G4)- Single Bond Universal + RelyX Ultimate, and (G5)-Scotchbond Multi-purpose + RelyX ARC. After cementation the specimens were stored in 100% humidity for 24hours at 37°C. The specimens were sectioned perpendicular to the adhesive interface to obtain beams…

Preparation of three-layered porous PLA/PEG scaffold: relationship between morphology, mechanical behavior and cell permeability.

2015

Interface tissue engineering (ITE) is used to repair or regenerate interface living tissue such as for instance bone and cartilage. This kind of tissues present natural different properties from a biological and mechanical point of view. With the aim to imitating the natural gradient occurring in the bone-cartilage tissue, several technologies and methods have been proposed over recent years in order to develop polymeric functionally graded scaffolds (FGS). In this study three-layered scaffolds with a pore size gradient were developed by melt mixing polylactic acid (PLA) and two water-soluble porogen agents: sodium chloride (NaCl) and polyethylene glycol (PEG). Pore dimensions were controll…

Dentin bonding agent with improved bond strength to dentin through incorporation of sepiolite nanoparticles.

2017

Background The study aims to investigate the effect of incorporation of sepiolite nanoparticles on the microtensile bond strength of an experimental dentin bonding to the human dentin. Material and methods The sepiolite nanoparticles were incorporated into an experimental methacrylate-based dentin bonding system in concentrations of 0.0, 0.2, 1.0, 2.0, and 5.0 weight percents. The specimens were then ultrasonicated to finely disperse the nanoparticles in the adhesive matrix. The coronal enamel of 30 intact human premolars was cut to expose dentin. Having etched, rinsed, and blot dried the experimental bonding agents were applied to dentin surface. Adper Single Bond was used as control group…

Effect of aluminum chloride hemostatic agent on microleakage of class V composite resin restorations bonded with all-in-one adhesive

2012

Objectives: Since hemostatic agents can induce changes on enamel and dentin surfaces and influence composite resin adhesion, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the aluminum chloride hemostatic agent on the gingival margin microleakage of class V (Cl V) composite resin restorations bonded with all-in-one adhesive. Study design: Cl V cavities were prepared on the buccal surfaces of 60 sound bovine permanent incisors. Gingival margins of the cavities were placed 1.5 mm apical to the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ). The teeth were randomly divided into two groups of 30. In group 1, the cavities were restored without the application of a hemostatic agent; in group 2, the ca…

Evaluating the shear bond strength of enamel and dentin with or without etching: a comparative study between dimethacrylate-based and silorane-based …

2015

Background: Silorane-based composites and their specific self-etch adhesive were introduced to conquest the polymerization shrinkage of methacrylate-based composites. It has been shown that additional etching of enamel and dentin can improve the bond strength of self-etch methacrylate-based adhesives but this claim is not apparent about silorane-based adhesives. Our objective was to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of enamel and dentin between silorane-based adhesive resin and a methacrylate-based resin with or without additional etching. Material and Methods: 40 sound human premolars were prepared and divided into two groups: 1- Filtek P60 composite and Clearfil SE Bond adhesive; 2- F…

Bulk filling of Class II cavities with a dual-cure composite: Effect of curing mode and enamel etching on marginal adaptation.

2014

Objectives: This study attempted to find a simple adhesive restorative technique for class I and II cavities on posterior teeth. Study Design: The tested materials were a self-etching adhesive (Parabond, Coltene/Whaledent) and a dual-cure composite (Paracore, Coltene/Whaledent) used in bulk to restore the cavities. Class II MO cavities were performed and assigned to 4 groups depending on the orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4) conditioning of enamel and polymerization method used (chemical or dual). Specimens were subjected to quantitative marginal analysis before and after thermo-mechanical loading. Results: Higher percentages of marginal adaptation at the total margin length, both before and aft…
