Computational Study of Nanosized Drug Delivery from Cyclodextrins, Crown Ethers and Hyaluronan in Pharmaceutical Formulations

Abstract The problem in this work is the computational characterization of cyclodextrins, crown ethers and hyaluronan (HA) as hosts of inclusion complexes for nanosized drug delivery vehicles in pharmaceutical formulations. The difficulty is addressed through a computational study of some thermodynamic, geometric and topological properties of the hosts. The calculated properties of oligosaccharides of D-glucopyranoses allow these to act as co-solvents of polyanions in water. In crown ethers, the central channel is computed. Abstract Radiation cure polymerisation of a commercial diglycidyl ether of bisphenol F epoxy resin has been achieved using a 60Co irradiation source, compounding the monomer with few percentage of an onium salt catalyst. The cure process has been monitored by a gamma-calorimetric technique and systems irradiated at doses corresponding to different positions in the gamma-calorimetric curve have been characterised via solubility tests and dynamic mechanical torsion analysis. The present paper surveys the investigation results of the adhesive behavior with steel of different polyethylenes (LDPE, HDPE) irradiated with γ-radiation in vacuum, oxygen, and air, using rheological, optical, thermomechanical and other methods. To study the adhesive contact, the technological parameters applicable to thermosetting polymer material were taken into consideration. The results show the suitable methods in order to obtain thermosetting polymer materials with improved adhesive and thermomechanical properties.

Purpose: The model drug norfloxacin (NOR)was encapsulated into trehalose (TRH) and hydroxyethylcellulose(NAT) microspheres to obtain a novel gelling ophthalmic delivery system for prolonged release on corneal tissue. Methods: We assessed NOR release from microspheres, prepared by the emulsion-solvent evaporation method. A new in vitro tear turnover model, including inserts containing reconstituted human corneal epithelium (RHC), was designed to evaluate the TRH/NAT microspheres’ precorneal retention time. Anastomotic leakage is a frequent complication of intestinal surgery and a major source of surgical morbidity. The timing of anastomotic failures suggests that leaks are the result of inadequate mechanical support during the vulnerable phase of wound healing. To identify a biomaterial with physical and mechanical properties appropriate for assisted anastomotic healing, we studied the adhesive properties of the plant-derived structural heteropolysaccharide called pectin.
