In the last decade the role of environmental factors as modulators of disease activity and progression has received increasing attention. In contrast to classical environmental modulators such as exposure to sun-light or fine dust pollution, nutrition is an ideal tool for a personalized human intervention. Purpose As result of the current demographic changes, osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures are becoming an increasing social and economic burden. In this experimental study, extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT), was evaluated as a treatment option for the improvement of osteoporotic fracture healing. Methods A well-established fracture model in the metaphyseal tibia in the osteoporotic rat was used. 132 animals were divided into 11 groups, with 12 animals each, consisting of one sham-operated group and 10 ovariectomized (osteoporotic) groups, of which 9 received ESWT treatment. Emergent Uric Acid Treatment is Synergistic with Mechanical Recanalization in Improving Stroke Outcomes in Male and Female Rats.

Preclinical and clinical studies support a promising, albeit not definitive, neuroprotective effect of emergent uric acid (UA) administration in ischemic stroke. We assessed the effects of UA in an ischemic stroke model relevant to the current treatment paradigm of mechanical thrombectomy within the STAIR/RIGOR recommendations. A cohort of male and female Wistar rats was subjected to ischemic stroke with mechanical recanalization under physiological monitoring. The treatments were standard CBT protocols for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complicated grief (CG), or adjustment disorders (ADs), depending on each patient diagnosis. Hawthorn extract inhibits human isolated neutrophil functions.

Hawthorn extract is a popular herbal medicine given as adjunctive treatment for chronic heart failure. In contrast to the cardiac properties of hawthorn extract, its anti-inflammatory effect has been scarcely investigated. This study examines the effects of a dry extract of leaves and flowers of Crataegus laevigata on various functional outputs of human neutrophils in vitro. Group Therapy Module to Enhance Self-Esteem in Patients with Borderline Personality Disorder: A Pilot Study

Psychotherapeutic treatments of borderline personality disorder (BPD) often focus on severe behavioral problems. Until now, few techniques have been developed to specifically address low self-esteem in BPD. We developed a 6-session psychoeducative group therapy module to treat low self-esteem in BPD patients. After developing and piloting the therapy module, a controlled outpatient pilot study was performed. Nineteen female BPD patients participated in the group module after discharge from an inpatient DBT program. Twenty-four female BPD patients served as controls. Fuzzy Relational Mathematical Morphology: Erosion and Dilation

In the recent years, the subject if fuzzy mathematical morphology entered the field of interest of many researchers. In our recent paper [23], we have developed the basis of the (unstructured) L-fuzzy relation mathematical morphology where L is a quantale. In this paper we extend it to the structured case. We introduce structured L-fuzzy relational erosion and dilation operators, study their basic properties, show that under some conditions these operators are dual and form an adjunction pair. Basing on the topological interpretation of these operators, we introduce the category of L-fuzzy relational morphological spaces and their continuous transformations.

The moving self in life, art, and community mental health: 12 propositions

2010

I argue here for the primacy of movement (Sheets-Johnstone, 1999) in both the organisation of the self and in social relationships. This means that movement is not simply important because it offers all of us (including psychiatric patients) better physical fitness, but because it is fundamental to the organisation of the individual person and her social matrix. It is therefore not simply an adjunct to life, art, and mental health but also the core of all three spheres.

From quantale algebroids to topological spaces: Fixed- and variable-basis approaches

Using the category of quantale algebroids the paper considers a generalization of the classical Papert-Papert-Isbell adjunction between the categories of topological spaces and locales to partial algebraic structures. It also provides a single framework in which to treat the concepts of quasi, standard and stratified fuzzy topology.
