[Comparing two different techniques to assess the appropriateness of admissions provided in the emergency room of a pediatric hospital].
2007
Two different techniques aimed to assess the appropriateness of hospital utilisation were used to study the same sample of clinical records of admissions provided during 2001 by the emergency room of a pediatric sicilian hospital. The first technique estimated the '"high risk of inappropriateness" DRGs prevalence, according to the Decreto del Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri of 29 Novembre 2001, and the second was the pediatric version of the Appropriateness Evaluation Protocol (AEP), based on clinical characteristics of patients and complexity of assistance provided. The comparison of results did not show any agreement between the two techniques (kappa= 0,031, C. I. 95%: from -0,001 t…
Brukerens erfaring og opplevelse av gjeninnleggelse i psykiatrisk døgnavdeling : "... de fleste mennesker har jo nok med sine egne familier, så det e…
2014
There has been a shifting change that has been in process over the years. From a hospital oriented based care offer in psyciatric health care, to a more desentralised direction where the care is oritented through community-based service. The idea is that everyone is to receive individual and costumised help in the community where they live. One wishes that every being gets the help they need in the community so that they can have the opportunity to be integrated and live as a part of the community. The number of bedposts in psychiatric hospitals has decreased over the years, and the community-based services has increased the offer. At the same time it has been noticed that some people are r…
Performance evaluation of a measurement-based algorithm for distributed admission control in a DiffServ framework
2002
Distributed Admission Control in IP DiffServ environments is an emerging and promising research area. Distributed admission control solutions share the idea that no coordination among network routers (i.e. explicit signaling) is necessary, when the decision whether to admit or reject a new offered flow is pushed to the edge of the IP network. Proposed solutions differ in the degree of complexity required in internal network routers, and result in a different robustness and effectiveness in controlling the accepted traffic. This paper builds on a recently proposed distributed admission control solution, called GRIP (Gauge&Gate Reservation with Independent Probing), designed to integrate the …
Risk stratification tools to predict future hospital admissions in elderly people. Application, development and implementation in the Valencian Healt…
2017
Call admission control scheme using borrowable guard channels and prioritizing fresh calls retrials in small cell networks
2014
International audience; Recent trends in mobile cellular networks turn towards deployment of Small Cell Networks (SCNs), where, the cell size gets smaller, and thus the number of subscribers served in a cell will be relatively smaller, such that traffic models with a finite source of subscribers should be considered. Smaller cells cause the mobile subscribers to cross several cells during an ongoing conversation resulting in frequent handovers. Most of works dealing with Call Admission Control (CAC) problems based on guard channels scheme in cellular mobile networks consider models without retrials (reapeted calls phenomenon). However, almost all existing works which take into account retri…
Factors determining patient admittance to the observation and consultation areas of the Emergency Department on workdays versus weekends
2019
Background In Poland, as in the world at large, Emergency Departments (EDs) face a formidable problem as they are overloaded with an excessive number of patients. It was decided to investigate whether there are any factors which determine patient admittance rates to the observation and consultation areas of EDs. Objectives The aim of this study is to determine whether differences in the rates of patient visits to emergency rooms (observation and consultation areas) on workdays and on weekends, are significantly determined by sociodemographic variables, patients’ beliefs and knowledge about the functioning of EDs and primary healthcare facilities (PHFs) or health-related variables. Material …
Theoretical Game Approach for Mobile Users Resource Management in a Vehicular Fog Computing Environment
2018
Vehicular Cloud Computing (VCC) is envisioned as a promising approach to increase computation capabilities of vehicle devices for emerging resource-hungry mobile applications. In this paper, we introduce the new concept of Vehicular Fog Computing (VFC). The Fog Computing (FC) paradigm evolved and is employed to enhance the quality of cloud computing services by extending it to the edge of the network using one or more collaborative end-user clients or near-user edge devices. The VFC is similar to the VCC concept but uses vehicles resources located at the edge of the network in order to serve only local on-demand mobile applications. The aim of this paper is to resolve the problem of admissi…
Access to Higher Education: An Instrument for Fair Societies?
2019
Access to higher education (HE) has a long history. To offer a view on the current debates and worldwide issues regarding access to HE, this editorial depicts how the control of educational access has historically been used as an instrument of governance at the interface of two processes: social stratification and the territorialisation of politics. Access to HE has remained embedded in these large structural processes even though HE has expanded from a highly elitist institution into mass education systems with equity of educational opportunities having become a desirable goal across societies. Analysing these processes helps understand the complex mechanisms producing inequalities in HE t…
Opiskelijavalinnat uudistuvat : vaihtoehtoisia valintatapoja todistusvalinnan rinnalle
2019
Ylioppilastutkintoon perustuvasta todistusvalinnasta tulee pääasiallinen valintatapa yliopistojen tutkintokoulutukseen. Sen ohelle tarvitaan vaihtoehtoisia tapoja, sillä ylioppilastodistus ei takaa kaikille opiskelupaikkaa. Avoimen yliopiston reitit antavat hakijalle mahdollisuuden pyrkiä yliopistoon aiemmin suoritettujen yliopisto-opintojen perusteella. nonPeerReviewed
