Incidence of Diabetes Following Ramipril or Rosiglitazone Withdrawal

2011

OBJECTIVE To examine the impact of withdrawing rosiglitazone and ramipril medication on diabetes incidence after closeout of the Diabetes REduction Assessment with ramipril and rosiglitazone Medication (DREAM) trial. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS The 3,366 DREAM subjects at trial end who had not developed diabetes while taking double-blind study medication were transferred to single-blind placebo for 2 to 3 months before undergoing an oral glucose tolerance test. Glycemic status was analyzed for the trial plus washout period and for the washout period alone. RESULTS Following median (interquartile range) 71 (63–86) days drug withdrawal, overall glycemic status remained modestly improved in t…

Treatment of aqueous solutions of oxytetracycline by different electrochemical approaches: anodic oxidation, pressurized electro-Fenton and oxidation…

2023

The tetracycline group (TCs) includes the most common antibiotics for treatment of both human and animal infections. TCs are resistant to biological degradation; hence, conventional wastewater treatments are unable to remove these contaminants. Here, the utilization of different electrochemical processes, such as electro-Fenton (EF), direct anodic oxidation (AO) and indirect oxidation by electrogenerated active chlorine (EAC), for the treatment of aqueous solutions of oxytetracycline (OTC), which is one of the TCs, was studied. The effect of various operating conditions was evaluated to optimize the selected processes. EAC gave the fastest abatement of OTC, but the lowest removal of TOC and…

Prevalence and Prognostic Impact of Diabetes in Takotsubo Syndrome: Insights From the International, Multicenter GEIST Registry

2017

OBJECTIVE In view of low prevalence rates, diabetes is discussed as a protective factor for the occurrence of Takotsubo syndrome (TTS). Furthermore, it was associated with improved outcome in a small single-center analysis. Therefore, this study assessed the prevalence and prognostic relevance of concomitant diabetes in TTS. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A total of 826 patients with TTS were enrolled in an international, multicenter, registry-based study (eight centers in Italy and Germany). All-cause mortality was compared between patients with diabetes and patients without diabetes, and the independent predictive value of diabetes was evaluated in multivariate regression analysis. RESULTS …

Knowledge Management Platform in Advanced Product Quality Planning

2014

Abstract Knowledge is an essential part of organizational competitiveness. This vital resource must be managed correctly within organizations in order to achieve desired performance levels within all undertakings. The process of managing knowledge is a very difficult one due to the illusive nature of the resource itself. Knowledge is stored within every aspect of an organization starting from people and ending with documents and processes. The Knowledge Management Platform is designed as a facilitator for managers and employees in all endeavours knowledge related within the Advanced Product Quality Planning Procedure

The Nature of Rest Silanol Groups on the Surfaces of Silica Based Solid Phase Extraction Materials

2013

Author's version of an article in the journal: Advanced Materials Research. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.4028/www.scientific.net/AMR.650.66 Chemically bonded solid phase materials are very important in separation chemistry. The chemically modified silica gel contains rest silanol groups that can affect the retention properties when they are used for separation of compounds. Some commercially available solid phase extraction (SPE) materials based on silica gel were analysed for rest silanol groups by near infrared spectroscopy. The combination frequency of the water molecules in the 5500- 5000 cm -1 region was used in identifying the nature of water molecules on…

Deploying harmonized ITS services in the framework of EasyWay project

2012

In the last decade, the use of new technologies in the transportation domain has made possible the development of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS). However, the ITS services were deployed isolated. The purpose of the EasyWay Project is to involve all the European countries to deploy harmonized ITS services taking into account the European citizen as final In this paper, an introduction of EasyWay project is done, including the ITS concept services and the Deployment Guidelines. A deployment guideline for traffic management and corridors is presented. Using this guideline, a real Spanish Traffic management Plan is analyzed.

Estimating the chance of success of archaeometric analyses of bone: UV-induced bone fluorescence compared to histological screening

2011

Abstract For most archaeometric analyses on archaeological bone material, such as the determination of the isotopic composition or genetic approaches, an advanced degree of diagenetic alteration can make designated analysis impossible. Since the lack of a positive signal is mostly seen only after time consuming and cost intensive sample processing, the need for an easy-to-apply screening method that allows a pre-selection of samples containing well-preserved biomolecules is obvious. In this study, we visually determined the UV-induced autofluorescence of 76 horse bone cross-sections, all from prehistoric archaeological sites of varying environmental and chronological background. In order to…

A method to estimate soil moisture from Airborne Hyperspectral Scanner (AHS) and ASTER data: Application to SEN2FLEX and SEN3EXP campaigns

2012

Abstract In this paper the soil moisture is estimated at airborne level and at satellite level by combining remotely sensed images with in situ measurements. At airborne level we process high-resolution images acquired with the Airborne Hyperspectral Scanner (AHS) sensor, and at satellite level we compute images acquired with the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER). The study has been accomplished in the framework of two field campaigns in the Barrax region (Spain): the SEN2FLEX (SENtinel-2 and FLuorescence EXperiment) campaign which was developed in July of 2005 and the SEN3EXP (Sentinel-3 Experiment) campaign which was carried out in June of 2009. The me…
