Accelerated transport and growth with symmetrized dynamics
2013
In this paper we consider a model of accelerated dynamics with the rules modified from those of the recently proposed [Dong et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 109, 130602 (2012)] accelerated exclusion process (AEP) such that particle-vacancy symmetry is restored to facilitate a mapping to a solid-on-solid growth model in $1+1$ dimensions. In addition to kicking a particle ahead of the moving particle, as in the AEP, in our model another particle from behind is drawn, provided it is within the ``distance of interaction'' denoted by ${\ensuremath{\ell}}_{\mathrm{max}}$. We call our model the doubly accelerated exclusion process (DAEP). We observe accelerated transport and interface growth and widening …
Steady-state emission and stability of a single-mode two-level Fabry-Perot cavity laser
1997
Abstract An analytical steady-state solution for a single-mode homogeneously-broadened two-level Fabry-Perot laser, valid for any field intensity, cavity detuning and level-population decay rates, is obtained. A power-series expansion of this solution allows to perform a linear stability analysis which reveals the existence of two Hopf bifurcations instead of one as in unidirectional ring lasers. These bifurcations delimit the domain of unstable emission of the laser with respect to small perturbations. The instability threshold for hard-mode excitation is higher than in a ring laser, although introduction of a small definite detuning makes them similar. The time-dependent behaviour above t…
A Langevin Approach to the Diffusion Equation
2002
We propose a generalized Langevin equation as a model for the diffusion equation of air pollution in the atmosphere. We write down a partial stochastic differential equation for the pollutant concentration, which we solve exactly obtaining the first and the second moment of the pollutant concentration. We obtain a linear multiplicative stochastic differential equation for the Fourier components of the concentration, which can be used to calculate higher moments of the concentration. We obtain the exact steady state solution in the case of neutral atmosphere and a general expression of the mean concentration as a function of the fluctuation intensity of the wind speed, the diffusion coeffici…
Comparison of Dissipative Particle Dynamics and Langevin thermostats for out-of-equilibrium simulations of polymeric systems
2007
In this work we compare and characterize the behavior of Langevin and Dissipative Particle Dynamics (DPD) thermostats in a broad range of non-equilibrium simulations of polymeric systems. Polymer brushes in relative sliding motion, polymeric liquids in Poiseuille and Couette flows, and brush-melt interfaces are used as model systems to analyze the efficiency and limitations of different Langevin and DPD thermostat implementations. Widely used coarse-grained bead-spring models under good and poor solvent conditions are employed to assess the effects of the thermostats. We considered equilibrium, transient, and steady state examples for testing the ability of the thermostats to maintain const…
Kinetic model for steady heat flow
1986
We construct a consistent solution of the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) model kinetic equation describing a system in a steady state with constant pressure and nonuniform temperature. The thermal profile is not linear and depends on the interaction potential. All the moments of the distribution function are given as polynomials in the local thermal gradient. In particular, the heat flux always obeys the (linear) Fourier law.
Gli scritti di Enea Silvio Piccolomini conservati a Breslavia
2015
The original documents stored in the State Archive in Wrocław related to Piccolominis political and Church activity are a testimony of ample diplomatic relations of this city with him. Wrocław authorities’ main aim was to receive the support from the Papacy for an internal conłlict with the King Jerzy from Podbierad. The second part of this essay is devoted to the issue of Piccolominis Historia de duobus amantibus Polish translation, stored in the University Library in Wrocław, which was previously analyzed in the academic literaturę on the basis of the Nineteeth Century edition.
OXIDASES ACTIVITIES AND ANTIOXIDANT CAPACITY OF MINIMALLY PROCESSED BABY ROMAINE LETTUCE (Lactuca sativa L. CV. DUENDE) CULTIVATED UNDER DIFFERENT SA…
2007
Analysis of the steady state hydraulic behaviour of the ITER blanket cooling system
2015
Abstract The blanket system is the ITER reactor component devoted to providing a physical boundary for plasma transients and contributing to thermal and nuclear shielding of vacuum vessel, magnets and external components. It is expected to be subjected to significant heat loads under nominal conditions and its cooling system has to ensure an adequate cooling, preventing any risk of critical heat flux occurrence while complying with pressure drop limits. At the University of Palermo a study has been performed, in cooperation with the ITER Organization, to investigate the steady state hydraulic behaviour of the ITER blanket standard sector cooling system. A theoretical–computational approach …
Steady state and transient thermal–hydraulic analyses on ITER divertor module
2005
Abstract One of the most challenging components of ITER is the divertor devoted at controlling the characteristics of the plasma boundary, exhausting the α particles and reducing the impurities in the plasma. The thermal–hydraulic design of the divertor is particularly, demanding because of the high heat loads and the cooling flow margin in the plasma-facing components (PFCs). The pressure drop is limited by the pumping power and also avoiding the risk of reaching critical heat flux (CHF). Furthermore, for maintenance operation foreseen, each single divertor cassette should be drained and dried before withdrawing it out from the vacuum vessel. To address these requirements, European Fusion …
The linear saturated decentralized strategy for constrained flow control is asymptotically optimal
2013
We present an algorithm for constrained network flow control in the presence of an unknown demand. Our algorithm is decentralized in the sense that it is implemented by a team of agents, each controlling just the flow on a single arc of the network based only on the buffer levels at the nodes at the extremes of the arc, while ignoring the actions of other agents and the network topology. We prove that our algorithm is also stabilizing and steady-state optimal. Specifically, we show that it asymptotically produces the minimum-norm flow. We finally generalize our algorithm to networks with a linear dynamics and we prove that certain least-square optimality properties still hold.
