The purpose of this scientific paper is to carry out an experimental research referring to the end-milling process of the 7136 aluminum alloy. Experimental Characterization of FSW T-Joints of Light Alloys

Welding is playing a growing role in transport industry due to relevant advantages it allows. Friction Stir Welding is considered one of the most promising joining technologies, especially when it is applied to light alloys. Focusing attention on FSW of T-joints, several parameters have to be considered, and due to thermo-mechanical features of process, T joints need a dedicated approach. Electroelastic Analysis of Piezoelectric Composite Laminates by Boundary Integral Equations

A boundary integral representation for the electroelastic state in piezoelectric composite laminates subjected to axial extension, bending, torsion, shear/bending, and electric loadings is proposed. The governing equations are presented in terms of electromechanical generalized variables by the use of a suitable matrix notation. Thus, the three-dimensional electroelasticity solution for piezoelectric composite laminates is generated from a set of two partially coupled differential equations defined on the cross section of each individual ply within the laminate. A new fixture for FSW processes of titanium alloys

FSW of titanium alloys is nowadays one of the most challenging welding operations, even with a solid state process, due to the thermo-mechanical and thermo-chemical characteristics of such materials. Due to the relevant application of titanium alloys in the aeronautic and aerospace industries, in the recent years few attempts were carried out to develop FSW processes aimed to maximize the mechanical performances of the welded parts. In the paper a new fixture is presented allowing obtaining effective FSW joints of titanium blanks, which were investigated through mechanical and metallurgical tests highlighting the peculiarities of FSW of titanium alloys.

Failure Estimates for SiC Power MOSFETs in Space Electronics

Silicon carbide (SiC) power metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) are space-ready in terms of typical reliability measures. However, single event burnout (SEB) due to heavy-ion irradiation often occurs at voltages 50% or lower than specified breakdown. Failure rates in space are estimated for burnout of 1200 V devices based on the experimental data for burnout and the expected heavy-ion linear energy transfer (LET) spectrum in space. peerReviewed

Salkowski curves revisited: A family of curves with constant curvature and non-constant torsion

In the paper [Salkowski, E., 1909. Zur Transformation von Raumkurven, Mathematische Annalen 66 (4), 517-557] published one century ago, a family of curves with constant curvature but non-constant torsion was defined. We characterize them as space curves with constant curvature and whose normal vector makes a constant angle with a fixed line. The relation between these curves and rational curves with double Pythagorean hodograph is studied. A method to construct closed curves, including knotted curves, of constant curvature and continuous torsion using pieces of Salkowski curves is outlined.

We present an explicit polynomial solution method for surface generation. In this case the surface in question is characterized by some boundary configuration whereby the resulting surface conforms to a fourth order linear elliptic Partial Differential Equation, the Euler–Lagrange equation of a quadratic functional defined by a norm.
