The greatest challenge for a human being lies in being able to understand, and indeed welcome, one’s own limits as an essential ingredient that determines, qualifies, and ultimately enriches the very tendency to overcome them. Any gesture that, in whatever way, aims to elevate us from our finite condition will be all the more successful in its intent the deeper that condition is imprinted in it.

In this article we analyze the effects that, as seen through the written press, the arrival of H1N1 had on certain affective behaviors in society. After the spread of H1N1, health authorities recommended maintaining physical distance in social settings and, among other measures, advised against kissing. At first, this show of affection became a victim of the pandemic, especially in certain activities and rituals. However, once the media impact of swine flu had subsided, kissing recovered its habitual place and frequency, demonstrating that customs which are socially and culturally entrenched are resistant to change.

Il saggio intende mettere a fuoco l'emozione della paura in relazione al modo in cui l’esercizio della ragione provoca in noi affezione, sviluppando una sensibilità specifica, una condizione di esposizione che concerne la vita del pensante. In ciò mi pare che la paura e, più in generale, l’intero ambito della vita emotiva, possa e anzi debba attirare l’interesse della ricerca filosofica, e specificamente, teoretica. La questione può essere posta sinteticamente in questi termini: la ragione fa paura? Pensare provoca una simile reazione emotiva? E se sì, in che senso?

Under the paradigm of activation, the Public Employment Services has been reshaped by two levels of contractualization. On one hand, the collaboration of the administration with a network of agents on the programme scheme that make up the active policies of employment. On the other hand, the unemployed person?s access to a compartmentalized offer of services and individually taking responsibility for finding work. This double contractualization reveals redefinition of lowering public responsibility faced with the problem of unemployment that this activation supposes. Coping with stress in different phases of romantic development

The degree to which coping with stress in romantic relationships is related to relationship development was examined longitudinally in a sample of early adolescents (n=107). Repeated measures ANOVAs revealed a significant decrease in romantic stress over time, while at the same time active coping with romantic stress increased. Concurrently, the quality of romantic relationships changed towards greater intimacy and affection. The results provide some support for recent theories of a developmental sequence in romantic relationships, according to which relationships progress from a more casual initial stage towards a more committed affection phase. AbstractThe values and attitudes toward education that parents transmit to their children considerably affect their school adjustment. The aim of this study was to analyse the relationships between academic adjustment in Spanish adolescents and parental socialization styles. Participants in the study were 487 adolescents (53.9% females) between 12 and 14 years old (M = 13.13, SD = 0.79). Cognitive and Affective Causes of Consumer Dissatisfaction With the Hospitality Encounter

Causality attributions, equity, and affection used to explain satisfaction have received special attention in the literature on dissatisfaction and complaining behavior. In this study we examine the contribution these three antecedents make to consumer dissatisfaction. A causal model has been constructed to examine the effect of these variables on dissatisfaction in a sample of 345 individuals who have had an unsatisfactory experience in a restaurant. The results show that attributions, inequity, and negative affections have a significant, direct and positive influence on the level of dissatisfaction, with attribution as the most influential explanatory variable.

The present study examines whether characteristics of parents predict the stability of a child’s best friendships across the primary school years. Participants included 1,523 Finnish children (766 boys) who reported involvement in a total of 1,326 reciprocated friendship dyads in the 1st grade (M = 7.16 years old). At the onset of the study, mothers and fathers completed questionnaires describing their own parenting (i.e., behavioral control, psychological control, and affection toward the child) and depressive symptoms.
