Plasmonic Nanosensors for Simultaneous Quantification of Multiple Protein–Protein Binding Affinities

2014

Most of current techniques used for the quantification of protein-protein interactions require the analysis of one pair of binding partners at a time. Herein we present a label-free, simple, fast, and cost-effective route to characterize binding affinities between multiple macromolecular partners simultaneously, using optical dark-field spectroscopy and individual protein-functionalized gold nanorods as sensing elements. Our NanoSPR method could easily become a simple and standard tool in biological, biochemical, and medical laboratories.

Minireview: Recent progress in hemocyanin research

2011

This review summarizes recent highlights of our joint work on the structure, evolution, and function of a family of highly complex proteins, the hemocyanins. They are blue-pigmented oxygen carriers, occurring freely dissolved in the hemolymph of many arthropods and molluscs. They are copper type-3 proteins and bind one dioxygen molecule between two copper atoms in a side-on coordination. They possess between 6 and 160 oxygen-binding sites, and some of them display the highest molecular cooperativity observed in nature. The functional properties of hemocyanins can be convincingly described by either the Monod-Wyman-Changeux (MWC) model or its hierarchical extension, the Nested MWC model; the…

Tremadocian Stylophoran Echinoderms From The Taebaeksan Basin, Korea.

2006

15 pages; International audience; Abundant isolated elements of cornute and mitrate stylophorans were recovered from the upper Tremadocian Tumugol Formation in the Taebaeksan Basin, Korea. Cornute skeletal elements comprise a diverse assemblage of marginals and brachials of cothurnocystid affinities, suggesting the presence of no fewer than four different species. Mitrate remains include numerous isolated adorals, marginals, and aulacophoral plates with typical peltocystidan morphologies. Two adorals are identified as Anatifopsis sp., while all the others are attributable to A. cocaban. However, the two previously documented peltocystidans of Korea, A. cocaban and A. truncata, are sufficien…

Pseudodalatias henarejensisnov. sp. a new pseudodalatiid (Elasmobranchii) from the Middle Triassic of Spain

2009

ABSTRACT Pseudodalatiids, a chondrichthyan family of uncertain phylogenetic affinities, have been hitherto exclusively known from the tooth-based species Pseudodalatias barnstonensis (Sykes, 1971), which has a stratigraphic range restricted to the Upper Triassic of Europe. Pseudodalatias presents a characteristic dentition which allows it to hold and cut its prey, showing a neoselachian design, but lacking the triple-layered enameloid microstructure of neoselachian teeth. The discovery of Pseudodalatias henarejensis nov. sp. in the Ladinian of Spain extends the stratigraphical range and the palaeogeographical distribution of this family. This new species also demonstrates that a cutting-clu…

Biostratigraphy and palaeobiogeography of the Cambrian genusHipponicharion (Ostracoda)

2002

The bradoriid genusHipponicharion Matthew, 1886 is one of the oldest known Cambrian ostracods. Until now, five species have been documented and another three taxa have been tentatively assigned to one or another species.Hipponicharion has been recorded from Poland, Germany, Morocco as well as from Canada and Great Britain.Hipponicharion hispanicum n. sp. represents the first Cambrian ostracod documented from Spain.Hipponicharion taidaltensis n. sp., formerlyH. aff.geyeri Hinz-Schallreuter, 1993 andH. elickii n. sp., formerlyH. cf.eos sensuElicki, 1994 have also been restudied in this paper.Hipponicharion seems to be restricted to the Acadobaltic Province sensuSdzuy (1972). The systematic re…

A Middle Cambrian edrioasteroid from the Murero biota (NE Spain) with Australian affinities

2007

Abstract A Middle Cambrian edrioasteroid belonging to the genus Cambraster is described from the Middle Cambrian Murero biota (Cadenas Ibericas, NE Spain). Up to now, this genus was known only from Australia and France. This represents the first record of the class Edrioasteroidea in the Cambrian of Spain. Moreover, preliminary results on the diversity and biostratigraphic position of Cincta, Eocrinoidea and Edrioasteroidea from this area are reported.

TAXONOMY AND AFFINITIES OF AFRICAN CENOZOIC METATHERIANS

2021

The record of extinct African metatherians (Mammalia, Theria) is scanty, restricted in time (Eocene–Miocene), and its taxonomy is still subject of debate. A review of all African metatherians, or alleged metatherians, known up to now, led us to the recognition of only three taxa referable to this group: (1)  Kasserinotherium tunisiense  (Peradectoidea?), from the early Eocene of Tunisia; (2)  Peratherium africanum  (Herpetotheriidae), from the early Oligocene of Egypt and Oman, and (3) an indeterminate Herpetotheriidae? from the early Miocene of Uganda. Herpetotheriids probably reached Afro-Arabia from Europe in one or more dispersal waves since the early Oligocene.  Kasserinotherium , on t…

A density functional study of flavonoid compounds with anti-HIV activity.

2005

Abstract Quantum chemical calculations at the DFT/B3LYP theory level, with the 6-31G* basis set, was employed to calculate a set of molecular properties of 26 flavonoid compounds with anti-HIV activity. The correlation between biological activity and structural properties was obtained by using the multiple linear regression method. The model obtained showed not only statistical significance but also predictive ability. We demonstrate in this paper that the anti-HIV activity of compounds can be related with the molecular hydrophobicity (ClogP), the electronegativity ( χ ) and the charges on some key atoms, while that the toxicity can be related with the electronic affinities (EA), ClogP and …
