Utilizing content analysis in teaching materials for children with autism spectrum disorder

2019

It is important to look at how education materials for students with disability view disability itself. Raising the general public's awareness on autism is crucial because of the rise in the antivaxx and anti-science movements, particularly in the United States. This thesis utilizes Content Analysis to explore how a set of teaching materials for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) understands ASD and the agency of the ASD child and creates trust with the readers. I analyze two argumentation styles to understand how those forms of argumentation create trust with the readers. This study is qualitative and relies on philosophical and cultural definitions of agency and personhood. In a…

Children's exploration of the concepts of home and belonging: Capturing views from five European countries.

2021

Understanding one's sense of belonging is a central part of identity formation and self-awareness; feeling safe somewhere, with specific people is identified as a basic human need. This paper explores the ideas of children from three age groups in five different European as they discussed the concepts of ‘home’ and ‘belonging’. Findings showed that the children's ideas could be organised into six interrelated aspects: Spatiality, Materiality, Multiplicity, Social Relations, Affect, and Dislocation. Whilst there were differences in the ways that the children conceptualised home across the classes, even the youngest children were able to describe their ideas using metaphors and abstract conce…

Ecological Stoichiometry of Bumblebee Castes, Sexes, and Age Groups

2021

Ecological stoichiometry is important for revealing how the composition of chemical elements of organisms is influenced by their physiological functions and ecology. In this study, we investigated the elemental body composition of queens, workers, and males of the bumblebee Bombus terrestris, an important pollinator throughout Eurasia, North America, and northern Africa. Our results showed that body elemental content differs among B. terrestris castes. Young queens and workers had higher body nitrogen concentration than ovipositing queens and males, while castes did not differ significantly in their body carbon concentration. Furthermore, the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio was higher in ovipositi…

The present study was conducted with the aim of constructing and validating a short form of the Profile of Mood States (POMS). The POMS is a widely-applied measure for the assessment of an individual's mood. Thus, it is of great relevance for many research questions in clinical and social psychology. To develop the short scale, we first examined psychometric properties and found the optimal 16-item solution among all valid combinations of the full POMS in an exploratory subsample (n = 1,029) of our complete representative sample of the German general population. We then validated this model in a confirmatory subsample (n = 977). Additionally, we examined its invariance across age groups and…

HUMAN VALUES AND ATTITUDES TOWARDS MONEY

2018

Spending money which is not earned becomes more available practice with help of the various types of cash loans. It causes social problem in society because easiness of getting money puts families at risk due to the high loan percent. Our study aims to understand ifhuman values are related to attitudes towards money and in what way if any.Values are motivational constructs that apply to abstract goals (Schwartz, 1992). Schwartz believes that the main aspect of value contents is the type of goal or the motivation it expresses (Schwartz, 1992). Also, values are abstract goals and do not effect decisions in specific situations they can work as the underlying assumptions for creating attitudes.…

Health-related correlates of psychological well-being among girls and boys 6-8 years of age : The Physical Activity and Nutrition in Children study

2018

Aim Due to limited knowledge on the differences in the correlates of psychological well‐being (PSWB) between girls and boys, we compared the correlates of PSWB between primary school girls and boys. Methods A population sample of 412 children participated in the Physical Activity and Nutrition in Children study. Parents completed a questionnaire that included 19 questions on the components of PSWB, and a PSWB score was computed. We assessed correlates of PSWB, including physical activity, sedentary behaviour, cardiorespiratory fitness, diet quality, body fat content, sleep duration, sleep disordered breathing, prevalent diseases and parental characteristics. We used logistic regression to a…
