Serine- and Threonine/Valine-Dependent Activation of PDK and Tor Orthologs Converge on Sch9 to Promote Aging

Dietary restriction extends longevity in organisms ranging from bacteria to mice and protects primates from a variety of diseases, but the contribution of each dietary component to aging is poorly understood. Here we demonstrate that glucose and specific amino acids promote stress sensitization and aging through the differential activation of the Ras/cAMP/PKA, PKH1/2 and Tor/S6K pathways. Chaperones have functions other than those classically attributed to them pertaining to protein homeostasis. These “other” non-canonical functions are the focus of chapter 8. The close interaction of the chaperoning and the immune systems and the impact of their malfunctioning on aging and cancer are highlighted. Conversely, the impact of ageing and cancer on the two systems is also underscored. A red wine from Aglianico vine was subjected to a micro-oxygenation procedure for five weeks. The wine was weekly sampled together with a non micro-oxygenated control and extracted with di-ethyl-ether in order to simplify NMR analyses. In fact, 1 H NMR spectra of the whole wine samples were dominated by water and ethanol signals which pre- vented visibility of the resonances generated by the less concentrated wine components. The 1 H NMR analyses of the di- ethyl-ether extracts revealed an increase of the amount of oxygen-containing materials. Such increase was attributed to a wine ageing process which resulted, hence, fastened by application of micro-oxygenation.

Surface properties of Saccharomyces cerevisiae lees during sparkling wine ageing and their effect on flocculation

Cell surface properties were determined for the first time for lees of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and they proved to be significantly dependent on the time of sparkling wine ageing on lees. Cell surface hydrophobicity decreased from approximately 44% to 11% of affinity to hexadecane. Electron acceptor capacity (calculated as % affinity to ethyl acetate-% affinity to decane) increased from approximately -27% to 10 % and zeta potential from approximately -4 to 6mV. Mannoproteins are released from the external cell wall layer during the autolytic process, as confirmed by TOF-SIMS analysis of the cell wall chemical composition. Manufacturing and characterization of single cell intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells for APU in transportation application

The fabrications of large area IT-SOFC planar cell by new simple and cost effective process were explained. The optimization of the new process with respect to pore formers, thickness of layers, sintering temperature were performed. The electrochemical results of 10cm2 performed in Fiaxell open flange set up were detailed with respect to different configuration. Long term ageing performance tests of single cells were conducted in Fiaxell device and results are discussed. Preparation of new test bench and stacking process performed till now were briefed.
