Sonographic demonstration of a spontaneous rectus sheath hematoma following a sneeze: a case report and review of the literature

Spontaneous rectus sheath hematoma (SRSH) is an uncommon cause of acute abdominal pain characterized by bleeding within the rectus sheath; it is a benign condition and, in most cases, it is treated conservatively. Bleeding of the abdominal wall is an unusual condition that is quite challenging to identify promptly and can be easily overlooked during a routine physical examination. In daily practice, anticoagulant therapy is one of the main risk factors for hemorrhagic events. In this respect, we report a rare case of spontaneous hematoma of the abdominal wall (diagnosed and monitored through an ultrasound examination) that arose after sneezing in a patient receiving anticoagulant treatment.

Percutaneous transhepatic fine calibre cholangioscopy is described. A specially developed transparent instrument is used, which makes it unnecessary to have a steerable endoscope; visualisation of the biliary tree is of diagnostic value for assessing biliary stenoses due to tumours (choice of biopsy site, extent of intraductal radiation therapy) and for the assessment of anastomoses between the biliary system and the gut (condition of the mucosa, stenoses). In the presence of percutaneous biliary drainage, the method has little utility. Extension of the method for treating intraductal stones may be possible if in future a useful lumen can be added to the fine endoscope.

Abstract In this study, we tested and compared the endocrine disruption activities of compounds in materials used to package foods (bisphenol A, bisphenol F, and bisphenol A diglycidylether BADGE) with natural molecules (genistein, apigenin, kaempferol, and tangeretin) in the human breast cancer cell lines MCF-7 (ER + ) and MDA-MB453 (AR + ; GR + ). Octylphenol was also chosen as a xenoestrogen reference. Two compounds had no estrogenic activity: BADGE and tangeretin. Emergent applications of CEUS techniques include extravascular and intracavitary contrast-enhanced ultrasound, quantitative assessment of microvascular circulation for tumor response assessment, and tumor characterization using dynamic contrast-enhanced ultrasound (DCE-US).
