Risk assessment of exposure to phthalates in breastfeeding women using human biomonitoring

In this study, we assessed the presence of 14 phthalate metabolites in the urine of 104 lactating mothers from Valencia (Spain) who took part in the human biomonitoring project BETTERMILK. Nine of the metabolites studied showed detection frequencies >80%, whereas the rest of the metabolites presented low detection frequencies (<5%). The concentrations ranged from <LoQ to 1291 ng/mL with monoethyl phthalate showing the highest concentration, with a geometric mean of 34.90 ng/mL. MRI studies after treatment of brain tumors in childhood and adolescence

Forty-seven children and adolescents with brain tumors were examined by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after tumor resection. The typical changes and complications after surgery and chemotherapy, as well as the corresponding MRI findings, are discussed. Typical examples of boundary-layer lesions, tumor recurrences, hydrocephalus, porencephalic cysts, and hygromas are given.

The intent of this review is to critically consider the data that support the concept of programming and its implications. Birth weight and growth trajectories during childhood are associated with cardiometabolic disease in adult life. Both extremes, low and high birth weight coupled with postnatal growth increase the early presence of cardiometabolic risk factors and vascular imprinting, crucial elements of this framework. Age assessment by skeletal age estimation of unknown individuals is of paramount importance in forensic science, both for assessing imputability (if the author of a crime is old enough to be tried and judged), both in case of unaccompanied minors, or whether refugees and asylum seekers are adults or juveniles, which implies different legal issues and procedures. The aim of this article is to review the age estimation methods used in forensic practice.

Many recent studies reported altered functional connectivity within the frontolimbic circuitry in a wide range of neuropsychiatric disorders. However, functional connectivity must rely on structural connections. Post-traumatic lipoma of the parotid gland: case report

The incidence of lipoma among parotid tumours ranges from 0.6% to 4.4%, with most series reporting an incidence of 1%. The most common origin of these tumours, in the parotid gland, is from the superficial lobe and, only rarely, from the deep lobe. Lipomas, upon clinical history, are found to be most frequently related to an episode of trauma. Computed Tomography scan and Magnetic Resonance Imaging can lead to a pre-operative diagnosis of lipoma. The case is described of lipoma of the superficial lobe of the parotid gland.
Prenatal diagnosis of congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation using three-dimensional inversion rendering: A case report

We report a case of a congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation of the lung (CCAM). At 12 weeks of gestation, an echogenic lung associated to a hydrothorax was detected. Despite the results of the combined test that informed of a high risk of chromosomopathy, normal karyotype was confirmed after an amniocentesis. The three-dimensional ultrasound inversion mode depicted all the cysts within the fetal lungs as opaque areas that were seen concurrently together, which was compatible with CCAM. After parental counseling, the patient opted to terminate the pregnancy at 18 weeks. Pathological analysis of the lungs confirmed the diagnosis of a CCAM type II.
