Choice between alternative investments in agriculture: The role of organic farming to avoid the abandonment of rural areas

Abstract Sicily has a long tradition in citrus fruit cultivation that, with vineyard and olive tree, represents the main Mediterranean tree crops. Since many Sicilian farmers in recent years have decided to abandon conventional lemon orchards, in this paper we have evaluated the financial sustainability of organic lemon production by comparing it with the conventional one. Financial analysis has been carried out in a case study on the northwestern coast of Sicily, considering a 50-year economic life of an orchard. Transformation of Ochratoxin A by Microorganisms Isolated from Tempranillo Grapes in Wine Systems

Mycotoxins are toxic metabolites produced by various genera of fungi. Fungi belonging to species of the genera Aspergillus and Penicillium are the main source of ochratoxin A (OTA) in wine. The reduction of OTA in must and wine has been studied using physical, chemical, and biological technologies. In this paper, we report on the capacity of different cultures isolated from Tempranillo winegrapes contaminated with fungus to degrade OTA in tryptic soy broth (TSB) medium at pH 3.5 and 6.5. The spatial dimension of the French private rental markets: Evidence from microgeographic data in 2015

International audience; This article draws on data collected by local rental observatories in 12 French urban units in 2015 to analyze the spatial dimension of hedonic rental prices in the private rental market through (i) the spatial heterogeneity between urban units and (ii) the wide variety of contextual and locational characteristics (socio-economic, environmental (dis)amenity, and accessibility) and flexible specifications to capture their potential non-linear influence on rent. The arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis, which appeared at the same time as land plants, 460 million years ago, is a mutualistic beneficial association between most land plants, including those cultivated, and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF).
