Viiankiaapa : suojeltu suo taiteen lähtökohtana

Maisterintutkielmani käsittelee tutkimustiedon, subjektiivisten luontokokemusten ja ympäristöeettisten pohdintojen merkitystä ja keskinäistä suhdetta taidetta ja tiedettä yhdistävässä Suojeltu aapa -hankkeessa ja hankkeen teoksissa. Olen taustaltani kuvataiteilija ja olen taiteen keinoin ottanut kantaa Sodankylän kunnan Viiankiaavan luonnonsuojelualueelle kohdistuviin kaivossuunnitelmiin. Ensimmäiset Viiankiaavan tilannetta kommentoivat teokseni tein vuonna 2012 ja vähitellen yksittäisistä teoksista kasvoi Suojeltu aapa -hanke. Tutkielman keskiössä on aapasuo. Suota on aikaisemmin kuvattu taiteessa sekä fyysisenä paikkana että mielenmaisemana ja sitä on tutkittu luonnonsuojelun kohteena luo…

Hautasaareke ihmistä varten : Jyväskylän Vanhan hautausmaan vaiheita vuosien 1956-1971 välisenä aikana

Uskonyhteisöjen toimesta on perustettu hautausmaita, jotta yhteisöjen kuolleet jäsenet saadaan sijoitettua johonkin yhteisössä vallitsevien tapojen ja käytänteiden mukaisesti. Tämän tutkimuksen kohde, Jyväskylän Vanha hautausmaa perustettiin vuonna 1837 kehittyvän ja laajentuvan kaupungin laitamille huolehtimaan yhteisön edesmenneistä jäsenistä. Tässä tutkimuksessa tutkitaan Vanhan hautausmaan vaiheita vuosien 1956–1971 välisenä aikana. Tavoitteena on selvittää miten ja miksi hautausmaata pidettiin yllä konkreettisena tilana, ketkä sitä pitivät yllä ja miten siellä toimittiin suhteessa hautausmaiden tehtäviin. Pro- gradu tutkielmassani haluan tuoda kielitieteen ”vaihdin”- käsitteen osaksi visuaalisen analyysin työkaluja. Keskityn tutkielmassani maalaustaiteeseen. ”Vaihdin” on kielitieteissä sana, jonka merkitys voi muuttua erilaiseksi, vaikka sen syntaksi pysyisi samana. Käsitteen lanseeraajaksi on nimetty tanskalainen kielitieteilijä Otto Jespersen, mutta se on esiintynyt myös venäläisen Roman Jakobsonin teksteissä. Maalaustaiteissa vaihdin on kuva-aihe tai objekti, jota jokin toinen taiteilija käyttää omassa tuotannossaan hyväkseen. Introducing advanced driver assistance systems in cars has numerous consequences, particularly on drivers' behavior and their interaction with the vehicle. While student motivation has been intensively researched, only a few studies cover motivation at doctoral level and even less focus on doctoral education in Computer Science. In this paper we investigate the motivation of graduate students to pursue doctoral studies specifically in Computer Science. We interviewed 63 doctoral students, from two different doctoral models (traditional and structured) in Finland and Austria, on their initial reasons and experiences that led them to enroll in doctoral studies. We report here a multipurpose dynamic-interface-based segmentation tool, suitable for segmenting planar, cylindrical, and spherical surfaces in 3D. The method is fast enough to be used conveniently even for large images. Its implementation is straightforward and can be easily realized in many environments. Its memory consumption is low, and the set of parameters is small and easy to understand. A dynamic texture (DT) is an extension of the texture to the temporal domain. How to segment a DT is a challenging problem. In this paper, we address the problem of segmenting a DT into disjoint regions. A DT might be different from its spatial mode (i.e., appearance) and/or temporal mode (i.e., motion field). To this end, we develop a framework based on the appearance and motion modes.
