Modulation of lipid metabolism and colonic microbial diversity of high-fat-diet C57BL/6 mice by inulin with different chain lengths

2019

Abstract The physicochemical properties, biological functions and microbial degradation of inulins differ according to their degree of polymerization. However, the relationship between inulin activities and its effect on gut microbiota remains unknown. In this study, high fat diet with inulin (1 or 5 g/kg·bw), either with short or long chains groups were administered to different groups of mice (n = 10) for 10 weeks in order to investigate the effect of inulin on the microbial diversity of the animals. Litchi pericarp procyanidins (LPPC) were used for comparison purposes. Furthermore, the lipid metabolism and key regulator genes in mice were determined. The results indicated that natural in…

Potencialidades de Google Maps en la investigación social aplicada

2019

In recent years, Google has devoted resources to build a complete map of the world. They constantly scan the territory, collecting a large amount of data that provides updated and complete geographic information. This allows us to have an interoperable map that provides the end user with a search tool, not only of routes but also of shops, equipment and any type of geo-referenced information. In addition, Google Maps provides a series of Application Programming Interface (API), which provides a library of set of subroutines, functions and procedures (in object-oriented programming) that can be used by other software to automate the extraction of information of the Google platform. Load mismatch of grid-connected photovoltaic systems: Review of the effects and analysis in an urban context

2013

Abstract The mismatch between generated and consumed electricity is a relevant topic of the energy and economic assessment of photovoltaic (PV) systems. Due to the load mismatch some amount of PV electricity may be exported to the grid because the electrical demand is temporarily lower than production, whereas a consumption, which is higher than production and/or that does not match the available PV generation, will require to be supplemented by the public grid electricity. The presence of the load mismatch can cause the effect of disadvantageously purchasing electricity from the grid and/or squandering the unexploited PV energy. If only a very small part of the PV generation is used to sup…

A “nucleophilic” iodine in a halogen-bonded iodonium complex manifests an unprecedented I+···Ag+ interaction

2021

Summary When an electron is removed from a halogen atom, it forms a halenium ion X+ (X = I, Br, Cl). In halogen bonding (XB), X+ is considered as a strong XB donor, and when interacting with two XB acceptors (e.g., pyridine), it forms a halonium XB complex with a [N–I–N] three-center-four-electron bond with the two XB acceptors. An unprecedented I+···Ag+ interaction occurs between a [L1–I–L1]+ halogen-bonded complex and a [L2–Ag–L2]+ complex in which the iodonium ion acts like a nucleophile and donates electrons to the silver(I) cation. The X-ray diffraction analysis reveals a short contact [3.4608(3) A] between the I+ and Ag+ cations, and ITC measurements give a ΔG of −6.321 kcal/mol and K…

The chemical composition of the aerial parts essential oil of four Phagnalon species collected in Sicily (Italy) and Greece

2022

The genus Phagnalon Cass., included in the Asteraceae family, has a wide distribution, expanding from Macaronesia in the West to the Himalayas in the East, from South France and Nord Italy to Ethiopia and Arabian Peninsula. Various species of Phagnalon have been used in the popular medicine of several countries as medicinal herbs and food. The extracts and the secondary metabolites, have a varied application spectrum at several biological levels, with antimicrobial, antioxidant, antidiabetic, antitumor, etc. properties having been reported. The essential oils of four taxa, Phagnalon rupestre, Phagnalon saxatile var. viride, and Phagnalon rupestre subsp. illyricum var. metlesicsii collected …

Tensor bounds on the hidden universe

2018

During single clock inflation, hidden fields (i.e. fields coupled to the inflaton only gravitationally) in their adiabatic vacua can ordinarily only affect observables through virtual effects. After renormalizing background quantities (fixed by observations at some pivot scale), all that remains are logarithmic runnings in correlation functions that are both Planck and slow roll suppressed. In this paper we show how a large number of hidden fields can partially compensate this suppression and generate a potentially observable running in the tensor two point function, consistently inferable courtesy of a large $N$ resummation. We detour to address certain subtleties regarding loop correction…
